WOONSOCKET â Weighing well over 250 pounds, Ella came to the Woonsocket Senior Center to attend a Senior Services Inc. weight loss class in hopes of shedding a few pounds before surgery to repair her knees.
She enrolled in a chair exercise class offered as part of the Senior Wellness program at the center, and within a few short weeks lost more than 50 pounds and enough weight to go ahead with her surgery.
WOONSOCKET â The cityâs Oct. 8 primary is no longer a factor in the City Council race after one of the 15 candidates vying for election to the seven-member panel, Jeffrey P. Belknap, filed a letter with the Board of Canvassers announcing his withdrawal.
Estelle Corriveau, manager of the Board of Canvassers, said the decision by Belknap will not remove his name from the list of 15 candidates for City Council on the Oct. 8 ballot, but it does eliminate him from moving forward to the Nov. 5 city election ballot.
WOONSOCKET â City voters will use 11 polling locations when voting in Tuesdayâs nonpartisan primary for local elected office, according to Estelle Corriveau, manager of the Board of Canvassers.
The ballot for the primary is highlighted by a four-candidate contest for mayor and will also include a listing of 15 candidates for City Council. The withdrawal of council candidate Jeffrey P. Belknap this week will send all 14 remaining council candidates onto the ballot for the Nov. 5 city election, she said.
WOONSOCKET â After facing criticism from political opponents for his record on economic development, Mayor Leo T. Fontaine outlined a broad, detailed plan for rejuvenating the cityâs economy and eliminating blight Wednesday.
Marguerite J. Allen
BURRILLVILLE- Allen, Marguerite J. "Margie", 75, of Pascoag, RI, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on September 29, 2013 at the Landmark Medical Center.
She was the wife of the late Wallace "Wally" Allen.
She was born in Woonsocket, a daughter of the late Armand & Irene (Gagnon) Lefebvre.
Benny J. Ferigno
MENDON, MA- Mr. Benny J. Ferigno, 92, of Mendon MA, died Tuesday (October 1, 2013) at his residence after a period of declining health. He was the husband of the late Helen (Zariczny) Ferigno, who died in 2010.
Mr. Ferigno was born in Milford, the son of the late Salvatore and the late Camella (Manguso) Ferigno. He was a WW II US Navy veteran and a longtime builder of homes.
Armand H. Rochefort
WOONSOCKET - Armand H. Rochefort, 89, of Pond St. Woonsocket died Thursday September 26, 2013 at Landmark Medical Center. He was the loving husband of Ethel J. (Rainville) Rochefort. They were marred on April 13, 1942.
Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Ovila and Oliva (Desilets) Rochefort. He was raised in Woonsocket and resided in Bellingham for over 34 years before returning to Woonsocket.
Mr. Rochefort served in the Army during WWII.
COVENTRY- McLAUGHLIN-DOOLEY, Patricia J. "Patty", 53, of Tillinghast Rd., Greene, passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, Sept. 30, 2013.
She was the wife of William J. McLaughlin, they had been married for 28 years.
Born in Providence, a daughter of C. Arlene (McKenna) Dooley of Cumberland and the late Frederick E. Dooley.
Dallas R. Edmondson
WOONSOCKET- Dallas R. Edmondson, 82, of 300 Privilege St., Woonsocket, died September 27, 2013.
He was the husband of Helene C. (Beauregard) Stevens-Edmondson. He leaves behind a loving extended family.
A celebration of his life will be held Tuesday October 8, 2013 from 5 - 7 PM in the community room at Waterview Apartments, 300 Privilege St., Woonsocket. Arrangements are under the direction of the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket.
