Slatersville Congregational Church turns 175 years old

NORTH SMITHFIELD - The Slatersville Congregational Church has a lot to celebrate. One hundred and seventy five years, to be exact.

One hundred and seventy five years of a historic building that has hosted community worship services, baptisms and weddings and Sunday school. But most of all, 175 years of coming together week after week to celebrate a faith that has built and bound a community.

Police say officer fired gun near station

WOONSOCKET – The Woonsocket police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred near Pond and Clinton streets about 1:20 a.m. Saturday. No injuries were reported.

The news was announced in a one-paragraph statement issued by the departmental spokeswoman at 11:08 a.m. Saturday. The release offered few details, but Detective Jamie Paone said an officer fired a weapon outdoors during an investigation described as “domestic related.”
