Manfredo Jr., Gingras await Friday night's main event of CES's 'Pride and Power' boxing show at Twin River

LINCOLN — Two years ago, a main event between Peter Manfredo Jr. and Rich Gingras would have been very unlikely and one of the last pairings any matchmaker could have imagined.
Two years ago, Manfredo was one of the top middleweight fighters in the world, battling Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. for the WBC championship, while Gingras, who fought as a cruiserweight and light heavyweight from 2006-2009, was 26 months removed from his last fight, electing to devote the bulk of his time getting his new gym, Fight 2 Fitness in Pawtucket, off the ground and running smoothly.

Parole board blasted

WOONSOCKET – After serving 13 years of his 35-year sentence, thrill-killer Alfred A. Brissette Jr. was paroled from the state prison Tuesday to a halfway house in Narragansett.
Dave Mellon, president of the Rhode Island Brotherhood of Correctional Officers, criticized Brissette’s release, calling it “a get out of a jail free card” issued by the parole board.
“This is worse than good time,” he said. “This is just the parole board showing no accountability.”

BURRILLVILLE- Florence "Doris" (Menard) Lapierre, 81, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013 peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her devoted husband, Albert Lapierre, to whom she was married to for 59 years.
Born in Harrisville, she was the daughter of the late Pierre and Emeline (Cabana) Menard.

WOONSOCKET- Lucien E. Lebrun 87, died Sunday November 17, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. He was the loving husband of Therese (Auger) Lebrun for fifty nine years.
Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Phillippe and Violet (Bartholomy) Lebrun.
He was a card tender at Woonsocket Spinning Co. Lucien enjoyed westerns, action films and maintaining his home.

BREAKING NEWS: Woman in crosswalk hit by car

WOONSOCKET – A woman was taken by ambulance to Landmark Medical Center after she was hit by a car while crossing the street in front of City Hall Tuesday afternoon.
Witnesses say the woman was using a crosswalk when she tried to cross Main Street around 3:25 p.m. A woman was driving a BMW heading towards the traffic light when she allegedly hit the woman, described by witnesses as being in her mid-30s.
“This lady was crossing and all of sudden she got hit and dropped to the floor,” said one witness. “She was lying on her side screaming, ‘I’m hurt.”

NORTH SMITHFIELD- Charles A. Drainville 75, of 10 Rhodes Ave., died Monday at St. Antoine Residence. He was the husband of the late Anita T. (Sudol) Drainville.
Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Gedeon and Theresa (Decelles) Drainville.
Charlie was a technician for New England Telephone/ Verizon for thirty one years before retiring sixteen years ago. He was a US Army Veteran. Charlie was an avid hockey fan, he enjoyed watching hockey, playing hockey and coaching youth hockey.

Police: Woman brutalized, raped

WOONSOCKET – A 32-year-old city woman was raped repeatedly by her ex-boyfriend and forced to eat food on which he had urinated – all in the presence of her 4-year-old son, police say.
Reinaldo Diaz, 34, was ordered held without bail Monday at the Adult Correctional Institutions on three counts of forcible rape, including an act of sodomy; two counts of domestic assault; and other charges. He was arrested Friday afternoon after another of the victim’s children, a daughter, called the police about a quarrel at home.

Born Janice Elizabeth Remington on June 18, 1942 in Providence, Rhode Island, she is predeceased by her parents Clinton O. Remington Jr., and Elizabeth Racine Remington of Oakland, RI.
She is also predeceased by her sisters Judith Remington Parsons formerly of Charlotte, VT and Joyce Remington McKenna formerly of Pascoag, RI.
