City officials hoping to open ice rink Wednesday night

December 7, 2013

WOONSOCKET – If it’s been a few years since you’ve laced up a pair of skates and they’re just sitting in the attic gathering dust, Woonsocket Parks and Recreation Director Elizabeth Kerrigan will be more than glad to take them off your hands.

In anticipation of re-opening the city’s municipal ice skating rink at River Island Park, the Parks and Recreation Department is accepting donations of new and used ice skates to provide families that do not have skates the ability to still use the rink, which is free and open to the public.

Clippers' Stock following in older brother's footsteps

December 7, 2013

CUMBERLAND – Mike Stock was a mere sophomore backup tailback/safety as he watched Cumberland High, including standout senior brother Dan, throttle archrival Woonsocket, 49-0, in the R.I. Division II Super Bowl a December ago at East Greenwich's Nick Carcieri Field.

For the Clippers, it was their first state championship in decades.

Wizards' defense to test Clippers in Division II Super Bowl

December 7, 2013

WEST WARWICK – In some ways, the West Warwick squad that will serve as Cumberland’s final obstacle in the road to repeating as Division II champs looks awfully familiar.

Like the stout defense the 2012 Clippers rode en route to capturing the Super Bowl, the 2013 Wizards have proven successful in writing their own “shutting down the opposition” script. West Warwick will carry a nine-game winning streak into Sunday’s 3 p.m. title game at Cranston Stadium, an impressive stretch that has seen head coach Shane Lagor’s crew surrender 10.5 points per game.
