NORTH SMITHFIELD — Saint Antoine Residence, Rhode Island’s largest long-term care facility, is gearing up for a major milestone - it's 100th birthday.
Saint Antoine is celebrating its centennial year in 2013 with a variety of events and communications that will take place throughout the calendar year, Wendy Fargnoli, Saint Antoine’s executive director, said at a special anniversary announcement ceremony held Wednesday on the Saint Antoine community campus in North Smithfield.
BURRILLVILLE — Teachers in every classroom in every school now have updated phones to allow continual communication with the central office and principal's office during classroom lock downs.
All doors and entryways at all school buildings are locked and secured. Teachers who are not actively teaching class are patrolling hallways. School liaisons at each of the schools are in constant communication with the Police Department.
CHICAGO --- Cumberland High cross country star Trevor Crawley added another accolade to his accomplishments on Thursday with his selection as the 2012-13 Gatorade Rhode Island Boys’ Cross Country Runner of the Year.
The award not only recognizes outstanding athletic excellent, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the race course.
Dorothy C. Nadeau
WOONSOCKET- Dorothy C. Nadeau, 79, loving wife of Joseph L.B. Nadeau, died peacefully on Tuesday, surrounded by her loving family at the Friendly Nursing Home.
Born on May 3, 1933, in Old Town, Maine, she was the daughter of the late Alvin "Jack" and Gladys (Dow) Strout. She was the sister of Mary-Ann (Strout) Taylor of Wells, Maine.
Peter L. O'Hara, Jr.
NORTH SMITHFIELD- Peter L. O'Hara, Jr., 86, of No. Smithfield, died January 13, 2013 in the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Providence. He was the husband of Thelma L. (Aldrich) O'Hara.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Peter L. O'Hara, Sr. and Josephine (Stefanik) O'Hara.
Mr. O'Hara was a mutual clerk at the former Lincoln Downs.
Therese B. Ferrier
WOONSOCKET- Therese B. Ferrier 95, of Woonsocket, died January 14, 2013. She was the wife of the late Raymond R. Ferrier.
Born in St. Sorel, PQ Canada, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Leona (Boisvert) Lalancette. Mrs. Ferrier was a homemaker for most of her life.
She is survived by her children, Raymond V. and Monique P. Ferrier both of Woonsocket and Rachel S. Ferrier of GA, and one grandson. She was also the mother of the late Jeannine Ferrier.
Donna June Croteau
BILLERICA, MA- Donna June (Lancisi) Croteau, 60, of Billerica, MA, passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at home with her loving family by her side.
Robert E. Blanchard
SCITUATE- BLANCHARD, Robert E., 65, of Peck Hill Road died Monday at his home. He was the beloved husband of Barbara Ann (Duclos) Blanchard. They were married for 42 years.
Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Joseph and Juliette (Richer) Blanchard. He lived in Scituate for 12 years previously living in Coventry.
Mr. Blanchard was the owner and operator of Water Treatment Solutions. He retired from the former N. E. Telephone Company. He was a US Navy veteran.

KINGSTON — With its leading scorer from a season ago still sidelined with a concussion he suffered in the season opener, Mount St. Charles Academy has found itself having to rely on a cast of players this winter -- some of whom were barely on the team’s radar a year ago -- to help pick up the slack offensively.
PROVIDENCE – Boasting a “Back to Basics” budget that contains no increase in taxes – and even a 2 percent reduction in the corporate tax rate over three years – Gov. Lincoln Chafee submitted an $8.1 billion tax and spending plan for 2014 to the General Assembly on Wednesday.
Of the budget total, $3.4 billion will come from state taxes and other revenues, with the rest provided by the federal government.
