WOONSOCKET â Andre Soukhamthath knows the coming-out party from 2012 is over.
A new year is under way for the 24-year-old Woonsocket bantamweight, and while his first full year as a pro fighter brought him a 3-0 record -- a submission win followed by two knockouts -- Soukhamthath wants to do bigger and better things this year.
CUMBERLAND â It certainly looked as if improved Tolman High, which rolled into Cumberlandâs Wellness Center late Wednesday afternoon with five victories in its previous seven tilts, would make it six-of-eight.

BERLIN, VT.- Albina Ann Beauley, 80, Passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 29th on her Birthday at Berlin Health and Rehab after a long battle with Parkinson's.
She was born January 29, 1933 to the late Genevieve and Theodore Morell. She was predeceased by two husbands Ernest Alfred Charette and George Beauley both from Woonsocket, RI.
She is survived by a sister Judy Cateau, and two Brothers Norman Morell and Theodore Morell Jr all of Woonsocket, RI and several nieces and nephews.
WOONSOCKET -- A car crashed into a utility pole on Diamond Hill Road, splitting the pole in half, at around 2:15 p.m. In this photo, spectators check out the scene at Diamond Hill Road and St. Leon Street. Witnesses said the lone operator of the Mercedes Benz was checking his cell phone then lost control of his vehicle, taking out the pole and crashing the car into a chain link fence at 797 Diamond Hill Road. The driver, said to be in his mid-50s, was concious but dazed and bleeding from his mouth when taken away by rescue personnel.

PAWTUCKET â For a ballclub hoping to be one of the deserving 16 teams in the stateâs Open Tournament at the end of February, Sheaâs been doing its part these days by turning in some excellent basketball.

WOONSOCKET â The City Council held a âstate of the budgetâ work session with administration and state officials Monday night and settled on a forecast that could only be described as dire and ominous.
Not only is the city once again looking at an operating deficit well over $14 million for the current fiscal year, it could also be dealing with that same figure each year through 2017 if drastic changes to city spending or state financial support are not made.
WOONSOCKET â There may be hope yet for Alexander Kithesâ embattled backyard chickens.
City Councilman Marc Dubois says heâs seriously considering a proposal to lift the ban on keeping chickens, just as other cities and towns have done.
It may be time for the zoning ordinance to reflect modern sensibilities about food as more and more people, like the Kithes, seek to grow their own for environmental and health reasons, he says.

WOONSOCKET - Margaret M. "Peg" Hoard, of Woonsocket, died peacefully in her home January 27, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Ernest F. and Lillian F. (Walsh) Hoard.
She leaves her sister, Elizabeth A. Hughes and her husband Dennis of Providence, her brother, David J. Hoard of Lincoln, and many nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces. She was predeceased by her brother, E. Gerald Hoard, her sister, Helen F. Hoard and her sister-in-law, Judith Hoard.
