Kent, Westrick swim to multiple state championships

PROVIDENCE — Out with the “old,” in with the new.
For Cumberland High senior co-captain Courtney Kent, she couldn't have fathomed a better way to close her interscholastic career at the R.I. Girls Swimming Championships, held Saturday afternoon at the recently-finished Brown University natatorium.
Really, who would argue with two individual crowns, not to mention a relay title and a runner-up in another?

Town sees high marks for 2012 operations

NORTH SMITHFIELD — An end of the fiscal year surplus of over $600,000, lower taxes, a favorable bond rating and a fully-funded pension account are some of the accomplishments the town realized last year.
Those were some of the highlights in Town Administrator Paulette D. Hamilton's annual "State of the Town" address delivered to the Northern Rhode Island Advisory Group, a small business affiliate of the Chamber of Commerce, earlier this month at Banneker Industries.

NORTH SMITHFIELD —There is a lot about Thomas E. Mundy that local folks will be remembering following his death at the age of 92 on Jan. 26.
Some will remember him for his longtime service on the North Smithfield School Committee; or for the floral business, Mundy’s Flower and Greenhouses, that he ran with his wife of 67 years, Clare (Ide) Mundy, on Victory Highway; or for his family life and work with local youth sports.
