BUCKSPORT- Francine Marie (Paulhus) Berthiaume, 67, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, after a long illness. She was born Aug. 27, 1945, in Providence, R.I., daughter of the late Francis Joseph Paulhus and Lottie Lucinda (Martin) Paulhus.
She was educated in Rhode Island schools and had lived in Bucksport with her husband, Norman Berthiaume, for the last 20 years.

Clippers' Bauer wins two individual events at boys' swimming state meet

PROVIDENCE — Cumberland High senior co-captain Andrew Bauer took a specific but incredibly-optimistic plan into these R.I. Boys Swimming Championships on Monday night.
It was his lofty goal to break his own school mark in the 200-yard freestyle, then set new CHS marks at the 500 distance, not to mention the 50 and 100 freestyles.

Northmen hockey team inches closer to securing playoff berth

NORTH SMITHFIELD -- North Smithfield entered this week knowing full well that if the Northmen wanted to qualify for the Division II playoffs, they would need to produce a win or two over their final three regular-season games.
But at first glance, that seemed to be a chore that was easier said than done. Those three contests – over a five-day span – were against teams with winning records, and two were versus opponents that had already secured a spot in the eight-team tournament that begins on Friday, March 1.

Board reaffirms killer's release

WOONSOCKET – Convicted thrill-killer Alfred Brissette has won early release from the parole board after all.
After hitting the pause button on its decision to free Brissette amid a firestorm of criticism in December, the board unanimously reaffirmed its position yesterday, said Matt Degnan, the administrator for the parole board.
Brissette, 39, of Woonsocket, who pleaded no contest to the 1999 slaying of Jeanette Descoteaux, will be released as soon as the details of his release plan are firmed up, said Degnan.

Dubois seeking seat on selectmen

BLACKSTONE — Three months after losing his election bid for state representative of the 8th Worcester District, former Blackstone Selectman Robert J. Dubois has announced he will run again for a seat on the Board of Selectmen in the April 1 town election.
Dubois, a Blackstone Democrat, had previously served on the board for 24 years. He was first elected in 1986 and was chairman from 1992 to 2002. He was chairman again up until the spring of 2011 when he was defeated in his re-election bid.

Thieves make off with bronze hand rails from St. Charles

WOONSOCKET – Something seemed out of place when the pastor of St. Charles Barromeo parish went out to shovel snow off the church steps Saturday morning, but he couldn’t immediately put his finger on it.
Suddenly, the Rev. Gerald Finnegan realized what it was: some 60 feet of bronze hand rail that had been bolted to the granite staircase were gone. Police say the rails were likely snatched by thieves and sold for scrap.

WOONSOCKET- Raymond E. Robidoux, 64, of Welles St. died Friday February 15, 2013, in Landmark Medical Center. He was the beloved husband of Jeanne T (Lemay) Robidoux.
Born in Blackstone. MA. Son of the late Adelard and Jeannette (Rouchleau) Robidoux.
Raymond worked as a folder for W.A. Wild, in Holliston, MA. for almost 23 years.
Raymond and Jeanne would have celebrated their 44 th wedding anniversary on May 10, 2013.
He was an avid bowler; and bowled for the Sunday night mix league. He enjoyed fishing, stock car racing, and sports.

MILLVILLE- Elizabeth C. (Martin) Beaudoin, 89, of Millville, MA, formerly of Barrington, RI died Friday, February 15, 2013 in Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence, RI. She was the devoted wife of the late Robert Beaudoin.
Born in Warwick, RI, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Maude E. (Webb) Martin.
Mrs. Beaudoin worked for many years as the secretary to the Superintendent of the Blackstone Millville Regional School system. The true joy in her life was her family.

CUMBERLAND- Lorraine J. Racine, 80, of Cumberland, passed away Saturday, February 16, 2013. She was the wife of the late Raymond F. Racine.
Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Oliver and Ida (Matte) Giguere.
She had lived in Cumberland for the last 60 years. Mrs. Racine was a member of the Elks Lodge #850 Emblem Club, Woonsocket and the St. Joseph Veteran's Club.
