June M. St. Louis
NORTH SMITHFIELD- June M. (Rogozyn) St. Louis, 76, of North Smithfield, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at the Lakeland Regional Medical Center. She was the beloved wife of Damien A. St. Louis.
Born in Woonsocket, RI on June 4, 1936, she was the daughter of the late John and Julia (Poznanski) Rogozyn.
Elsie Schofield
CUMBERLAND- Elsie (Waterman) Schofield, 88, of Bear Hill Road died Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at Grandview Center, Cumberland. She was the wife of the late Richard Schofield.
A lifelong resident of Cumberland, she was a daughter of the late Richard and Mildred (Jenckes) Waterman.
Mrs. Schofield was a registered nurse at the former Woonsocket Hospital, now Landmark Medical Center, for 22 years before retiring.
Connie Anderson applies a fresh coat of paint to a space that will be the new home for the recently established Arts Guild of Woonsocket, expected to open at the beginning of April. The space is located inside Le Moulin, a crafters gallery and marketplace at 68 South Main St. in Woonsocket. Anderson, owner of the nearby Stage Right Studio for Arts and Wellness, came up with the idea for the Guild while serving as a member of the Main Street Livability Plan Steering Committee as part of its mission to create a more lively and vibrant downtown city zone.
NORTH SMITHFIELD — U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) geologists are in town this week to conduct new surveying, drilling and soil testing of the Stamina Mill Superfund site in Forestdale and determine whether volatile organic compounds still exist in soil above the water table.
The government geologists will be focusing their efforts on an area that has undergone soil vapor extraction and treatment for the past several years.
WOONSOCKET – The Budget Commission Tuesday afternoon unanimously approved a resolution to move forward with key portions of the five-year plan to wipe out the deficit, including sweeping rollbacks in pensions and post-retirement benefits for retirees.
The night before, in a non-binding vote, the City Council offered lukewarm support for the plan, approving the resolution on a split vote of 3-2. Two other members abstained, citing conflicts of interest.
WOONSOCKET – The Budget Commission has scuttled its original plan for raising $2.5 million in supplemental taxes largely on the backs of single-family homeowners in favor of an across-the-board hike on all classes of real estate, coupled with higher motor vehicle taxes.
All residential property, including multi-families, would pay a supplemental bill equivalent to 4.4 percent more than what they were billed in July if the plan passes muster with state lawmakers. The same hike would extend to apartment complexes of 11 or more units, which are currently classified as commercial real estate.

PAWTUCKET — The Lincoln/Cumberland Co-op girls’ hockey squad had just suffered a tough 5-2 decision to the combined Barrington/Mount Hope/Portsmouth club on Thursday night, March 7, at Brown University.
That, coupled with the Lions’ 6-5 double-overtime defeat in the first game of this-best-of-three R.I. Division II Tournament championship series, meant the second-year program hadn’t captured its dream of capturing the state crown.
Wilfrid H. Therrien
WOONSOCKET - Wilfrid H. Therrien, 90, of Fox Brook Manor, died March 17, 2013 in Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket. He was the husband of Anita (Bilodeau) Therrien. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late John F. and Diana (Rousseau) Therrien.
Walter L. Vermette
WOONSOCKET - Walter L. Vermette 85, of Mendon Rd. died Sunday March 17th at Landmark Medical Center. He was the husband of Pauline C. (Caron) Vermette.
Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Alfred and Alice G. (Handfield) Vermette. Walter was a bartender, office manager and co-owner of his family's business the former Vermette's Restaurant. Walter started working in the family's restaurant at a very young age and continued throughout his life. He served in the US Navy and Air Force during the Korean War.
Robert R. Drolet
BURRILLVILLE - Robert R. Drolet, 67, of North Rd, Pascoag, died Monday, March 18, 2013 in Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket. He was the husband of Carol A. (Saccoccio) Drolet whom he married March 1, 1974. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Rudolph and Alice (LaForest) Drolet.
Robert worked for North Uxbridge Auto of Uxbridge, MA. He was a member of the Army National Guard.
