It wasnât that long ago when parity was the name of the game in the Division I ranks.
In those days, the competition was so balanced that as many as 9-10 teams entered each season with a realistic chance at state championship glory. And during in an 11-year stretch from 2001-2011, nine different teams enjoyed their moments in the spotlight with the championship plaque.

NORTH SMITHFIELD â It comes as no surprise to anyone who knows him that Dillon Falardeau has become a national-class angler.
Actually, Falardeau, an 18-year-old North Smithfield High senior, laughs while explaining his appeal to it.
âI got involved with it when I was very young; my grandfather, George Lamoureaux, loved to fish, and so did my dad (Kevin Falardeau),â he noted just before the school dismissal rang out Wednesday.
BURRILLVILLE ââ After a lapse of nearly two decades, Pascoag Council 383 Knights of Columbus proudly announces the return of its once-popular Friday Night Bingo, scheduled to resume April 5 at the Columbus Club function hall located at 98 Roosevelt Ave. Fully approved and licensed, the games will begin promptly at 6:20 p.m.; doors will open at 4:30 p.m. and the kitchen at 5:00 p.m.
The bingo program will include a full complement of regular games and several higher-paying special games including a split-the-pot and weekly prize build-up game with a maximum of $1.000.
WOONSOCKET â State regulators on Friday unexpectedly suspended their review of Prime Healthcare Services application to purchase Landmark Medical Center, leaving the status of the sale in limbo.
The decision came after the 20-hospital, for-profit chain headquartered in Ontario, Calif., had submitted some 1,400 pages of additional information to the regulators after Primeâs first application was deemed incomplete.
Despite the voluminous amount of paperwork they received, the regulators said Primeâs response failed to clear up the omissions and in some cases raised even more questions.

Former North Smithfield High girlsâ coach Bill Nangle was asked to come to the R.I. Girlsâ Hockey Coaches Associationâs annual banquet at Wrightâs Farm on Thursday night thinking he was going to help present a new project for the varsity sport he helped start and eventually coached for a full decade with the Northmen.
Claire R. Boisvert
MANVILLE- Claire R. Boisvert, 96, of Manville, died Monday, March 25, 2013 at the Holiday Nursing Home where she had been a resident for the past 6 years. She was the wife of the late Jean R. (Pee Wee) Boisvert.
Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Anna (Cayer) Gamache.
Mrs. Boisvert worked in several department stores in Woonsocket. She retired from the former Nyanza Mills Department Store.
Claire was a longtime communicant of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Parish and enjoyed crossword and word search puzzles.
WOONSOCKET â A Superior Court judge has granted a new trial to a city man who was paralyzed after diving into the now-defunct âSocial Oceanâ in 2008.
Associate Justice Susan McGuirl threw out a 2011 jury verdict absolving the state of liability in causing Brett Royâs injuries, saying she could not agree with the decision.
WOONSOCKET â Five men and a juvenile male have been arrested in connection with two home invasions â one in Burrillville and one on Park Avenue â in which marijuana was stolen this month. An arrest warrant has also been obtained for a sixth man.
In custody are Kyeme Gallagher, 22, of 20 Bell St.; Charles Welch, 23, of 97 Roberts St.; Cyril Delgado, 19, of 97 Roberts St.; Andrew Perry, 21, of 90 Girard Ave., Newport; and Randy Santana, 21, of 482 Park Ave., and a 17-year-old male from the city.
Edward T. Kross
CUMBERLAND- Edward T. Kross, 94, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully, Thursday, March 28, 2013. He was the husband of Dorothy (Longtin) Kross. They were happily for 67 years.
Born in Putnam, CT, he was the son of the late Frank and Mary Kross. Mr. Kross was an army veteran of World War II.
He was a parts manager for several Ford dealerships, including Jack Madden of Norwood Ford, retiring in 1994. He enjoyed bowling, ballroom dancing, and traveling. For many years, he wintered in Florida with his wife.
Margaret T. Kopeski
GLOCESTER- Margaret T. (Magner) Kopeski, 89, of Chepachet, passed away Monday, March 25, 2013. She was the beloved wife of Michael J. Kopeski, Sr.
She was born in Harrisville, a daughter of the late John J. and Eugenie (Gaucher) Magner.
