KEITHVILLE, LA- MARTIN, MICHAEL FRANCIS, 56, passed away on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 in Keithville, Louisiana.
Son of the late Joyce Martin and late Francis Martin,
Michael grew up in North Smithfield, RI, and raised his family in Woonsocket, RI.
He is survived by his two sons, Brian Martin of Attleboro, MA and Kevin Martin of Woonsocket, RI, and his brother James Martin of Burrillville, RI.
Michael spent his career as an independent contractor, and enjoyed fishing, baseball, and hockey in his free time.

PALM BAY, FLORIDA- Steven Cherwinski formerly of 3 Sorel Ave. North Smithfield, passed away on March 6 in Palm Bay, Florida.
Born on March 12, 1932, he was the son of the late William and Catherine Cherwinski. Steven was born in Woonsocket and spent most of his life in North Smithfield.

Sequester cuts starting to take their toll

WOONSOCKET – Social service agencies in the city are bracing for a rise in demand for assistance with food, shelter and other supports as federal sequester cuts begin taking a toll on extended unemployment compensation at the end of the month.
About 1,120 city residents receive the federal Emergency Unemployment Compensation benefits, which is about 14 percent of the total statewide, according to the state Department of Labor and Training. The average EUC check is $377 a month and will shrink by about $47.
