A little of this, a little of that …

David Ortiz is a well-compensated baseball player. He’s also an adult.
When the time came to address the Fenway Park masses last Saturday, the Red Sox star should have exhibited better judgment. Enough bombs went off in the city of Boston last week. Yet there was Big Papi, dropping an expletive-laced one that ended up casting a pall over a touching pre-game ceremony.

CUMBERLAND- Donald A. "Ducky" Beauregard, 65, of Mendon Road died Saturday, April 20, 2013 at St. Antoine Residence, North Smithfield. He was the husband of the late Rachel (Gagnon) Beauregard.
Born in Providence, a son of the late Arthur and Marguerite J. (Roy) Beauregard, he was a lifelong resident of Cumberland.
Mr. Beauregard was a valve assembler for Crosby Valve & Gauge, Wrentham, MA for 26 years and later worked as an inspector for Consolidated Container, Franklin, MA for 5 years, retiring in 2010.

NORTH SMITHFIELD- John W. Hewitt, 86, of Homestead Ave., died April 22, 2013 in St. Antoine Residence, No. Smithfield. He was the husband of Ethel C. (Roberts) Hewitt whom he married April 26, 1952.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late William J. and Marie (Burns) Hewitt.
Mr. Hewitt worked twenty-eight years as an accountant and in the sales department for Brodeur Windows Distribution, Lincoln, retiring in 1992. A WWII Navy Veteran, he was a communicant and trustee of Sacred Heart Church. John was an avid Red Sox fan and loved his wife and children.

Making it official, Rep. Baldelli Hunt announces bid for mayor

WOONSOCKET – Pledging an “extremely creative and bold” approach to solving the city’s financial problems, State Rep. Lisa Baldelli Hunt (D-Woonsocket) announced she’s running for mayor Tuesday, ending the speculation about her plans.
She told The Call that the city needs a stronger leader who can erase the financial uncertainty lingering over taxpayers and do more to retain and attract businesses to the city.

HOPEDALE- Suzie M. (Carpentier) Goulet, 57, of Hopedale, died Wednesday, April 17, at home. She was the longtime companion of Kent Clemons.
Suzie was born in Quebec, a daughter of the late Fernando and Jeannette (St. Louis) Carpentier.
She was an assembler for Honeywell in Woonsocket for many years before retiring in 2008 due to illness.

City man gets 30 years for child molestation

WOONSOCKET – A city man was sentenced to 30 years Tuesday after a Superior Court jury convicted him of multiple counts of child molestation recently.
Anibal Acevedo was ordered to serve 20 years at the Adult Correctional Institutions, followed by 10 years suspended time and probation.

PUTNAM, CT- Garry W. Howard, 58, died unexpectedly Saturday April 20, 2013 in U-Mass Medical Center, Worcester, MA. A resident of Putnam, CT, he was the husband of Suzanne Menard whom he married Feb. 22, 2007.
Born in Providence, he was the son of Lois (Howard) Divencenzo of Harmony and the late James Silverthorne.
Garry was the owner and operator of Artistic Stamped Concrete.

PINELLAS PARK, FLORIDA- Robert R. Godin III passed away on 4/8/13 at the age of 23.
He resided in Pinellas Park, Florida and had plans of attending nursing school.
He is survived by his father Robert Godin Jr. of Woonsocket, RI, his mother Kelley M. Godin of Pinellas Park, Florida and brother Troy R Godin of Woonsocket, RI.
A funeral service is being held at First Assembly of Gods Church, 420 Mendon Road, Woonsocket, RI at 11 am on Saturday May 4th.

Nursing home shut down

BLACKSTONE – Town health officials Sunday abruptly closed the Blackstone Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and ordered the evacuation and relocation of the nursing home’s 25 residents after it was discovered the Butler Street facility had been without heat and hot water since Thursday afternoon.
Town officials were tipped off about conditions at the facility after the daughter of one resident went to visit her mother Sunday and saw her and other residents sitting around wearing coats and eating off paper plates. The facility had no heat or hot water due to a cracked boiler plate.
