Nelson, Bertherman lead Cumberland past La Salle

CUMBERLAND — There’s no place like home. And for Cumberland, which played eight of its first nine games of the season (two of them non-league contests in Massachusetts and one an Injury Fund non-leaguer) on the road, Wednesday afternoon’s Division I showdown against La Salle in the friendly confines of Tucker Field was certainly a welcomed breath of fresh air.

A portentous email from an accomplished and revered pro football broadcaster was the first blossoming of the good things to come for Bob Socci.
Now that Socci is officially the lead play-by-play radio announcer for the New England Patriots, the veteran sportscaster and current radio voice of the Pawtucket Red Sox can look back with fondness at the message of hope Gil Santos delivered a few years back.

Gay Marriage bill passes in the Senate 26-12

WOONSOCKET- Vilma C. (Aiudi) Zagaglia, 85, of Rhodes Ave., formerly of Diamond Hill Rd., died Wednesday April 24, 2013 in Landmark Medical Center, with her beloved family by her side. She was the wife of the late John Zagaglia.
Born in Woonsocket, daughter of the late Augusto and Anna (Maculan) Aiudi.
Vilma worked for the City of Woonsocket, as a Purchasing Agent for 21 years.
She was the former Past President of the Ladies Guild of St. Anthony's, and the Women's Auxiliary of the Marchigiano Club.

BLACKSTONE- Robert R. Lachance 79, of Summer St. died Tuesday at home. He was the husband of Constance (Benjamin) Lachance. Mr. and Mrs. Lachance would have celebrated 56 years of Marriage, April 27, 2013.
Born in Woonsocket he was a son of the late Oscar and Victoria (Chaput) Lachance.
Robert worked as a milkman for the former Ideal Dairy for ten years. He retired form Edgecomb Metals as a foreman after twenty years of employment. Bob was a Korean War Army Veteran.

She was the wife of the late Paul Lamoureux.
Rita was born March 2, 1926 in North Smithfield, RI, a daughter of the late Delphis & Emma Jane (Gagnon) Bacon.
