PROVIDENCE – Through all the twists and turns on his basketball journey, Ricky Ledo never once lost sight of what he interpreted to be the brass ring.
Mentioning Ledo and the NBA in the same sentence is a parlor game that’s been en vogue for quite some time. The Providence native always seemed to have a twinkle in his eye when it came to pro hoops – his tunnel vision so clairvoyant that the only matter left to itemize was to wait for Declaration Day.

BURRILLVILLE — Senior captain Zach LaFleur had just confessed to his “new” head coach, Peter Berthelette, that he needed his help with the bat after striking out twice in his final two at-bats Tuesday afternoon.
But when asked what Burrillville High’s stellar 4-3 victory over Mount St. Charles in both teams’ Division II-North season opener meant to him, LaFleur responded immediately and with feeling.

UPDATE: Murder in Woonsocket

WOONSOCKET – Police say a woman whose body was found in her home Monday night was the victim of a homicide, but they aren’t saying much else.
The victim was identified as 57-year-old Donna Pike, who lived on the top floor of 79 Rathbun St., a gray, three-story stucco behind Lee’s Convenience Store.
Saying they don’t want to jeopardize an ongoing investigation, the police disclosed few details about how they believe Pike was murdered, the condition of the body or where in the apartment it was found.

CUMBERLAND- Stephen M. Petrosky Jr. , 93, formerly of Diamond Hill Road, passed away Thursday at Woonsocket Health and Rehabilitation Center, Woonsocket. He was married to the love of his life, the late Stella Zoubra on October 31, 1964 with whom he traveled the world and this country, which they enjoyed tremendously until her passing in 1995.
Born June 4, 1919 in Woonsocket, he was the fourth child and first son of Stephan and Efrosina Petrosky.
Stephen was a 1937 Franklin High School graduate where he received a medal for his essay on American History.

Voters asked to approve plan for ‘solar farm’ at landfill site

BLACKSTONE — A proposal to install ground-mounted photovoltaic solar panels at the former landfill on Chestnut Street will go before voters next month.
The plan is to enter into a lease agreement with a solar energy developer who will finance, operate, and maintain the facility while providing reductions in energy costs to the town.

School budget submitted, vote Wednesday

WOONSOCKET — The School Committee has received a school administration recommended budget of $65,958,808 for 2013-2014 but whether it can break a committee impasse over that figure won’t be known until Wednesday.
The panel voted 2-2 on the recommended budget at its last meeting but was missing its Chairwoman Vimala Phongsavanh when the vote was taken.
