EAST PROVIDENCE — Bobby Leopold would have loved to compete in more amateur tourneys this spring, but just couldn't find the time.
On December 10, he and his wife, Taylor, became proud new parents of Grayson Robert, now a bouncing six-month-old boy, so – naturally – most of his days, and of course nights, are devoted to his baby and work.

Chepachet going back in time Saturday

GLOCESTER – Cannon balls will be flying in Chepachet Saturday during the seventh annual Canon Night Fire, the premiere event in the town’s annual tribute to the Dorr Rebellion (1841-1842).
The Canon Night Fire begins at dusk at Acote's Hill Cemetery (ball field side) where members of the Gloucester Light Infantry will spend an hour-and-a-half firing 30 rounds from two cannons – 15 rounds per cannon.

St. John’s Feast kicks off Friday night

CUMBERLAND – Steaming plates of tripe stew and barbecue chicken and the traditional Marchas de São João will highlight Clube Juventude Lusitana’s annual Saint John’s Feast, a three-day Portuguese festival that kicks off tonight.
One of the biggest Portuguese feasts of its kind in Rhode Island, the festival grounds at the club’s headquarters on Chase Street, including its three function halls, will be teeming with activity with everything from Portuguese folkloric dancing groups to the club’s traditional São João parade in honor of St. John’s Day.

Singleton Street Bridge to get mini-makeover

WOONSOCKET – The concrete deck of the Singleton Street Bridge is getting a mini-makeover after public works crews found a hole clean through it.
City officials discovered the problem after state bridge inspectors reported there was “a pothole” in the deck a couple of weeks ago. But Public Works Director Sheila McGauvran said that when city highway crews checked they found an opening in the deck about the size of the briefcase.
“You could look right through it and see the Blackstone River,” she said.

BURRILLVILLE - Marshall, Robert A., 58, died Wednesday at home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Judith (Sinnott) Marshall.
Born in Pawtucket, a son of Ruth (Hanna) Marshall of Putnam, Ct. and the late Daniel Marshall, Sr. Bob was a lifelong Burrillville resident.
He was the owner of RA Marshall Piping Company in Burrillville for over 20 years. He enjoyed hunting and camping.

CUMBERLAND- Irene S. Mathisen, 86, of Fisher Road, passed away Wednesday at Elmhurst Extended Care, Providence. She was the wife and childhood friend of John Mathisen whom she married 40 years later, and remained happily married for 40 more years.
Born in Union City, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Gustav and Anna (Dowling) Schoenleber. She resided in Cumberland for over 50 years, previously residing in Wayne, NJ.
Mrs. Mathisen was employed as a Real Estate Agent for Coleman Realty for many years and was a member of the RI Realtors Association.
