Red Sox think top prospect Bogaerts catches on fast

PAWTUCKET -- On a late March day in Fort Myers, Fla., Xander Bogaerts could have accepted what the lineup card stipulated and left it at that.

The Red Sox prospect and now the newest member of the PawSox, however, was comfortable enough in his own skin to approach the powers-that-be and show his eagerness and enthusiasm for the game he is paid to play.

According to one staff member, the sequence helped cast the player in a whole new light.

City could lose $1.4M in aid

WOONSOCKET – As the Budget Commission prepares to adopt the first budget of its five-year solvency plan Monday, there are hurdles on the revenue side of the $127.9 million spending package some officials fear may be insurmountable.
The latest curveball is a proposed $1.4 million cut in aid the commission was expecting from the state. Gov. Lincoln Chafee had included the money for distressed communities and pension supports in his proposed $8.2 billion state budget, but when the plan emerged from the House Finance Committee earlier this week, the aid had been eliminated.

NORTH SMITHFIELD- Raymond L. Deziel, 84, died Friday, June 21, 2013. He was the beloved husband of R. Marie (Masucci) Deziel to whom he was married 59 years.
Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Leo and Minnie (Kmiotek) Deziel.
He was a graduate of Woonsocket High School and Providence College. Following high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with the occupational forces in Japan after World War II. He loved his God and his family, living his life with those values.

JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA- JONES Michelle Elizabeth Jones, 59, passed away Monday, May 20, 2013 in Jacksonville, Florida.
Michelle was a native and longtime resident of Woonsocket, Rhode Island where she was also a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. She moved to Jacksonville, FL with her husband 10 years ago.
She was preceded in death by a son, Adam Luc Jones. Survivors include her husband, Jesse L. Jones; one daughter, Candy Portman; one son, David Jones, Sr.; one brother, Donnie Cardin; four grandchildren; other loving family and dear friends.
