WOONSOCKET – Seventy-five-year-old Beverly Alward holds her arms outstretched and spins her great-granddaughter beneath the flashing neon lights of the Stadium Theatre marquee.

Swaying to the hypnotic hip-hop blaring from the stage near the towering replica of Paris’ Arc de Triomphe, it’s not the kind of music she normally listens to, but she’s having a great time, nevertheless.

WOONSOCKET – The asphalt throbbed to the pulse of amplified music, and the aroma of chicken teriyaki and roast beef wafted through the air as Jackie Archambault maneuvered her motorized scooter through the crowd, noshing on a bag of popcorn.

“I’m having a good time,” said Archambault. “They should’ve done more of this stuff when we were younger.”

Barnes wins debut; PawSox reduce magic number to one

PAWTUCKET — As far as Triple-A debuts go, Matt Barnes looked quite comfortable.

The slender right-hander was in total command on the McCoy Stadium mound Thursday night, tossing 5.1 scoreless innings that featured a little bit of everything. His Pawtucket teammates were able to make Barnes a victor as the locals silenced Syracuse, 2-0, before 5,021 fans.

Newcomer Berry adds more speed to Red Sox arsenal

PAWTUCKET — Teams that harbor deep playoff aspirations prefer to have all their bases covered.

In acquiring Quintin Berry, the Red Sox have sent out the following signal: They have a late-game, pinch-running weapon that figures to make manager John Farrell’s job a bit easier when David Ortiz, Mike Napoli and Jarrod Saltalamacchia reach base.

The name of the game is scoring runs, and Berry’s fleet-of-foot tendencies could prove quite valuable as Boston casts an eye toward October baseball.

WOONSOCKET- Earl Graham Ledoux 86, of 97 Warwick St. passed away August 28, 2013, at Hospice St. Antoine Residence. Husband of Muriel (Page) Ledoux for 56 years.
Life-long resident of Woonsocket and son of the late Victor and Gertrude (Marrah) Ledoux.
He proudly protected the community for 36 years as a Woonsocket Firefighter.

Born in Woonsocket the daughter of the late Edmond F. and Aurore E. (Therrien) Lessard she was a textile lab color matcher dyer for many years.
