Jacqueline R. Ouimette

BELLINGHAM, MA- Jacqueline R. Ouimette, 81, of Center Street, died August 1, 2013 at home. She was the wife of Raymond R. Ouimette and the late Jean Normand Chasse.
Born in Woonsocket, RI, she was a daughter of the late Gaston and Rosanna (Perron) Trinque.
She had also resided in Wareham, MA and in Florida during her lifetime.
Jacqueline had worked as a stitcher and supervisor at various area mills. She was an avid golfer and a member of Reservation Golf Course in Mattapoisett, MA. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society.

WOONSOCKET- Kathleen E. (Hand) Ackley, 56, of Woonsocket, passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2013 after being stricken at work. She was the beloved wife for 13 years and together for 30 wonderful years of Alan R. Ackley.
Born in Woonsocket on July 20, 1957, she was the daughter of Edythe (Paine) Hand of Bellingham and the late Lawrence R. Hand.

Phyllis Irena Hoyle Palmer Thomas

WOONSOCKET- Phyllis Irena Hoyle Palmer Thomas died on August 1, 2013.
She was born on December 15, 1919, in Ware, MA to John Sawyer Hoyle and Irene Coughlin Hoyle.
She leaves a son, Jonathan A. Thomas, and a daughter-in-law, Angel Dean, of Providence. A brother, Lester S. Hoyle, died during 1972 in Phoenix, AZ.
Mrs. Thomas was married in 1941 to the late Charles H. Palmer, and in 1952 to the late Alton Pickering Thomas, MD. She was a 1937 graduate of Woonsocket High School, and received a BS in Journalism from Boston University in 1941.

Lincoln Little League improves to 2-0 in New England regionals

BRISTOL, Conn. — Thankfully for Lincoln Little League, Brandon Lee is just one player.

The No. 3 hitter in Newton South East’s lineup certainly did some damage Sunday, slugging two home runs with four RBI and two runs scored. Collectively, Lincoln was able to overcome the Herculean effort and knock off the Massachusetts representative. 14-8, in the second game round-robin play of the Little League New England Regional Tournament.

Both squads ended up spraying the ball all over Leon J. Breen Field, tallying 22 runs and 25 hits, including 10 extra base hits.

PawSox loaded with major league-caliber bullpen options

PAWTUCKET — Sometimes the trades that a major-league ballclub doesn’t end up making can prove quite revealing.

The Jake Peavy acquisition was not the only smoke signal sent out by the Red Sox at the July 31 non-waiver trading deadline. Last Wednesday’s 4 p.m Eastern Time deadline did not feature the acquisition of a warm body for the sole purpose of augmenting the bullpen core that manager John Farrell presently has at his disposal.

Community garden is a dynamo of produce production

CUMBERLAND – It’s mid-summer and the town-owned Metcalf-Franklin Farm on Abbott Run Valley Road in Cumberland has already harvested 10,000 pounds of vegetables and is well on its way towards an anticipated annual yield of 34,000 pounds by the end of the growing season.

And every ounce of it goes to nearly a dozen food pantries, soup kitchens and emergency food centers from Woonsocket to Pawtucket to Central Falls.

These competitive athletes are quietly trying to figure out the secret of the biggest event of the year in outdoor cross-training races: the exact route of the Blackstone River Greenway Challenge.

Navigant Post 85 repeats as R.I. American Legion champs

WEST WARWICK – As if on cue, droplets began falling from the purple-, orange- and dark gray clouds surrounding McCarthy Field just as Navigant Post 85 of Woonsocket’s leaders accepted their second straight Anthony J. Lombardi Jr. Trophy as Rhode Island’s premier American Legion team.

Still, nothing was going to rain on this parade.

PawSox' Ranaudo looks to paint a minor-league masterpiece

PAWTUCKET – Rich Sauveur can’t wait to see Anthony Ranaudo go all Pablo Picasso on the blank canvas that will represent his tenure at Triple-A Pawtucket after his promotion here on Friday.

“From what I heard, he was throwing the ball extremely well down in Portland and I can’t wait to see him throw,” stated Sauveur, Pawtucket’s pitching coach. “(Sea Dogs pitching coach Bob Kipper) sent me some information on Anthony, and I was just reading up on it. Kipper thinks that he’s an outstanding person and a great student of the game.

WOONSOCKET- Bruna M. Mancinelli, 78, of Pinecrest Drive, died Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at home with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late Carlo Mancinelli.
Born in Blackstone, Mass., daughter of the late Oscar and Carlotta (Grassi) Pecori.
Bruna was a homemaker; she enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a loving mother and grandmother.
