The good times continued at the ballpark Monday night as the PawSox staged a 2-1 walk-off win over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. Pawtucket trailed 1-0 heading into the bottom of the ninth before receiving a game-tying sacrifice fly from catcher Ryan Lavarnway and a game-ending RBI single by Mark Hamilton that came on a 3-2 pitch.
PAWTUCKET â For PawSox manager Gary DiSarcina, seeing Derek Jeter propel himself through the rehab process this past weekend helped conjure up one pleasant memory after another.
âI hadnât seen him in a while, but the first thing I thought of when I saw him was âMan, heâs a classy individual,ââ DiSarcina expressed. âIn my mind, he and Cal Ripken Jr. were the torchbearers. Cal handed it over to him, and not because Derek won, but itâs the way he won.
Dennis T. Brennan
MANVILLE - Dennis T. Brennan, 42, of Manville died Saturday morning at home. He was the loving husband of Jennifer A. (Blanchette) Brennan. They were married on November 26, 1988.
Born in Gardner, MA he was a son of Daniel F. Sr. and Zelia (Cavaco) Brennan of Bellingham. He was raised in Bellingham and resided in Manville for over 20 years.
Dennis attended Bellingham schools and worked in the construction industry. He was the proprietor of All-Phase Flooring.
BURRLLVILLE - Anna (Iwasko) Chaharyn, 97, a resident of Overlook Nursing Home, formerly of St. Paul's St. North Smithfield, R.I., died Sunday August 25, 2013, in the nursing home with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late Thomas Chaharyn.
Born in Boston, Ma. daughter of the late Anthony and Maria (Nychay) Iwaska.
Mrs. Chaharyn worked as an assembler for A T Cross prior to retiring.
WOONSOCKET â Deputy Chief Timothy Walsh of the Woonsocket Fire Department will succeed retiring Chief Gary Lataille on an interim basis after the chief retires at the end of the week.
Walsh will assume the title of acting chief of the WFD on Sunday, said Mayor Leo T. Fontaine.
âThis is a temporary, interim appointment,â said Fontaine. âThis will give us time to go through a full search and appointment process.â

WOONSOCKET - Rachel T. (Sylvestre) Evans, 57, of Summit St. passed away on Sunday at home
She was the loving wife of Robert W. Evans. Born April 6, 1956 in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of Jeanne (Gelinas) Sylvestre of Woonsocket and the late Henri Sylvestre.
Rachel was a Machine Operator for the Avery-Dennison Manufacturing Corp. retiring due to disability. Before Avery-Dennison, she was employed at the former Tupperware Co.
Jessie E. Carter
BLACKSTONE - Jessie E. (Buchtzk) Carter, 92, of Blackstone, MA died Tuesday, August 20, 2013 in Blackstone Nursing Home, Blackstone, MA. She was the wife of the late Leonard Carter. Born in Woonsocket, RI, Mrs. Carter was the daughter of the late Samuel and Paulina (Gouron) Buchtzk.
Mrs. Carter was a cord assembler for Miller Electric in Woonsocket RI before retiring in 1962.
Barbara A. Lesowski
NORTH SMITHFIELD - Barbara A. (Osborne) Lesowski, 80, of No. Smithfield, died Thursday, August 22, 2013 in the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence. She was the wife of Frank T. Lesowski, whom she married June 22, 1957. Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Clifton and Signe (Greenlund) Osborne.

LINCOLN â Starting out as a freshman student in high school can be much easier if there are a few familiar faces at the school when the first day of school arrives.
Thatâs why Lincoln High School Principal Kevin McNamara, staff members of the school and upperclassmen were out in the schoolâs parking lot on Wednesday for the annual Freshmen Roar night.
Freshmen and their parents could meet the studentsâ teachers, take a tour of the high school, and also sign up for extracurricular activities such as sports or afterschool clubs.
