Local veterans throughout Valley will remember

WOONSOCKET – Carrying on a tradition that they started in 2001, members of the United Veterans Council of Woonsocket and the Veterans of Foreign Wars will hold a remembrance ceremony today marking the 12th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on America.

Burrillville teens urged to heed anti-distracted driving lesson

BURRILLVILLE – In a town that had its share of serious accidents over the summer, including a July 11 crash that killed two teenagers, two Burrillville High School educators have joined forces with local police to drive home the message to student drivers about the dangers of distracted driving.

On Sept. 26, the high school will be the host school for the “National Save a Life Tour,” a high-impact distracted driving awareness program that travels around the country to educate students about the dangers of districted driving and driving drunk.

Twin River table game expansion receives the go-ahead

LINCOLN – Twin River officials have received state approval to increase the number of table games at the 100 Twin River Road, state-supervised casino, and may be unveiling a new expansion plan even as casino plans move forward in nearby Massachusetts.

Twin River spokeswoman Patti Doyle confirmed on Tuesday that the casino received permission from the state Lottery Commission last Friday to increase the number of live gaming tables from 66 to 80, but noted a specific plan for an expansion has not yet been finalized.

Tolman comes back to spike North Smithfield, 3-1

NORTH SMITHFIELD — Tolman High had just dropped the first game of an important, early-season, Division II-North clash against North Smithfield when head coach Roger Tow huddled his girls for a talk.
It consisted of several statements, the lowlights being the Tigers’ committing too many unforced errors, missing serves, not playing their positions and a failure to communicate.
“They listened; they’re a very coachable group,” Tow said.

LINCOLN- Doris F. (Gaulin) Zanella, 91, formerly of Woonsocket, died, Saturday, September 8, 2013, in the Holiday Retirement Home, with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late Peter C. Zanella.
Born in Woonsocket, daughter of the late Albert N. and Marie Ange (Marcotte) Gaulin.
Doris was a Homemaker. She was a member of the St. Louis Chorale for 28 years and St. Joseph Senior Citizens and volunteered at the Woonsocket Health Center for several years.
Doris loved spending time with her family and friends.

MILLVILLE- Rina R. (Beauregard) Berthelette, 83, of Millville, died Friday, September 6, 2013 in the Timothy Daniels House, Holliston. She was the wife of the late Alfred L. Berthelette.
Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Bernadette (Houle) Beauregard.
Rina loved quilting, baking and spending time with her grandchildren.

BLACKSTONE- Linda C. (Brunelle) Paterson, 47, of Blackstone, died Sunday, September 8, 2013 in the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence. She was the wife of Donald V. Paterson, whom she married August 22, 1987.
Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Armand and Rita (Durand) Brunelle.
Linda was a 1983 graduate of Woonsocket High School and earned her Associate's Degree from CCRI. She was a CNA at St. Antoine Residence and several other area nursing homes.

REEDVILLE, VIRGINIA- Betty Bruneault, 83, of Reedville, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2013.
She was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Fleeton, Virginia. Betty was so happy in her Reedville dream home, and made many new friends. She was at total peace with her life, and her Reedville family will continue to do everything to honor her memory. She will be greatly missed by everyone she has touched. Her patron saint is St. Therese, and we pray that Betty is with the Little Flower now.

TUCSON, AZ-- Daniel Poirier, 91, passed away Thursday September 5, 2013 in Tucson, AZ.
He was born in Woonsocket and a former resident of Blackstone. He worked for Milot Bros., Grossmans and Goodhues before relocating to Tucson.
Daniel is survived by his wife Mary Linda, sons Daniel Jr. of Conway, SC, Michael of Blackstone, David of Uxbridge, Philip of Woonsocket, Joseph of Carlsbad, CA, daughter Danielle Lawrence of Becket, 10 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
He served in the Marine Corp during WW II and saw action in the Pacific.
