Mauled by loose dog, greyhound fights for life

NORTH SMITHFIELD – The future is still uncertain for a rescue greyhound named Lady who underwent a third round of surgery Monday after she – and the 82-year-old woman who owns her – were both attacked by a neighbor’s pit bull mix.

Wanda Misiaszek, of 175 St. Paul St., fell to the ground, striking her head, and she was bitten on the arm and fingers as she tried to protect Lady. The dog, meanwhile, suffered multiple deep puncture wounds, according to her nephew, Michael Calo.

Toddler survives second-story fall uninjured

WOONSOCKET – Somehow, a toddler managed to fall out of a second-story window Saturday without getting hurt, police say.

The 2-year-old boy and his father, Isaiah Ethier, 27, were visiting friends at 291 Bernon St. when the accident happened at about 11 a.m., according to Detective Jamie Paone.

The child got close to the window by climbing onto a nearby countertop and then pushed on the screen, said Paone. The screen was still in place when the police arrived, but there was a large tear in it, she said.

BURRILLVILLE- Thomas B. Carter, of Glendale, died September 12, 2013 at the age of 63.
Born in Whitinsville, he was the son of Helen L. Carter of No. Smithfield and the late Fred W. Carter and was the brother of Frank and Ronald Carter, Helen Lavalle, Ruth Goudreau, Lydia Lapierre and the late Fredrick Carter who died serving in the Vietnam War.
Tom proudly served his country in the United States Navy and retired from the Teamsters Union in 2007. Tom was an active member of the Morning Star Masonic Lodge for Free Masons.

WOONSOCKET- Richard W. L'Esperance, 74, of Bourassa Avenue, Woonsocket, died on September 15, 2013 in The Friendly Home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Madeleine (Carolo) L'Esperance, to whom he was married for thirty years. He enjoyed their winter residence in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Born in Woonsocket and a lifelong resident, Richard was a son of the late Wilfred and Jeannette (Cadoret) L'Esperance.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Robert Samson, her daughter, Sandra, two grandchildren, all of Chepachet, her father, James Baker and her siblings Jane Burgess, Beth Travis, Mary Lou Hillery, Nancy and Mark Baker. She was the daughter of the late Dorothy (Burke) Baker.

He was son of the late Rene A. Beausoleil Dolores M. Ferland.
He is survived by three sisters Yvonne Raymond of Woonsocket, Jeanne Michone of Lincoln and Jeannine Demoss of Portland TX, two brothers Dennis Beausoleil and Paul Beausoleil both of Woonsocket. He was preceded in death by his sister Jacqueline Beausoleil Convey.

SLATERSVILLE- Barbara J. Warrington, 85, died peacefully Saturday, Sept. 14 at her home, surrounded by her loved ones. She was the wife of the late Norman A. Warrington for 44 years.
Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Carl W. and Ruby (Keats) Christiansen. She has lived in Slatersville for 80 years. She graduated from Burrillville High School in 1945. She attended Pembroke College and graduated from Bryant College in 1949.

CHARLESTOWN- Marcel R. Girard, 90, of Kings Factory Road, Charlestown, previously of Woonsocket, died September 13, 2013 in Home and Hospice Care of RI, Providence. He was the husband of Berthe (Cournoyer) Girard, to whom he had been married for nearly sixty six years.
Born in St. Nazaire, P.Q., Canada, he was the son of the late Eugene and Cecile (Cournoyer) Girard.
