Moses Brown spoils MSC’s debut on new courts

WOONSOCKET — Moses Brown did everything it possibly could to steal the show from its host on Wednesday in the very first regular-season match at Mount St. Charles’ sparkling new courts across Logee Street.
The Quakers made history by netting the facility’s first singles victory. Minutes later, they also came away with the first doubles triumph.
And an hour and a half later, they wrapped up their eventful afternoon by busing back to Providence with a 6-1 verdict over the Mounties.

Police: Deadbeat parents picked up in sweep

Four men from Woonsocket and three from Pawtucket were among the 26 individuals rounded up in an early-morning statewide sweep Wednesday by Rhode Island State Police and charged with failure to pay child support.
The warrant sweep, conducted in coordination with the United States Marshals Service and Rhode Island Division of Sheriffs, began Wednesday morning and by the end of the day, a total of 30 people were arrested, including 26 individuals due to body attachments issued by the Rhode Island Family Court for failing to appear for court proceedings and failure to pay child support.

WOONSOCKET- Joseph A. Beaudoin, Fred, 81, of Woonsocket, passed away Monday, September 2, 2013. He was the devoted husband of Lorraine (Bourget) Beaudoin. They were happily married for 57 years.
Born in Albion, he was the son of the late Donat and Evangeline (Baillargeron) Beaudoin.

MANVILLE- Marguerite E. (Kuntz) Connolly, 89, of Sayles Hill Road, died September 3, 2013 in Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence. She was the wife of Joseph A. Connolly, Jr.
Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Annette (Patrie) Duhamel.
Marguerite enjoyed crocheting and was an avid reader. She was the Valedictorian of Woonsocket High School, class of 1942.

CUMBERLAND- Clara (Ames) Schofield, 93, of Cumberland, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2013. She was the wife of the late Walter Schofield.
Born in Pawtucket, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Isabelle (Blodgett) Ames.
She is survived by two sons, William and Thomas Schofield; a daughter, Marjorie Moore, five grandchildren and one great granddaughter. A private burial was held in Arnold Mills Cemetery, Cumberland. Arrangements by ONeill Funeral Home, Cumberland.

WOONSOCKET- Normand R. Dextraze, 72, of Woonsocket, died Saturday, August 31, 2013 in his home. He was the husband of Lucille A. (Boisvert) Dextraze, whom he married April 22, 1967.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Donat and Lea (Blanchard) Dextraze.

WOONSOCKET- Tellier, Donna, M., (Luciano), 66, formerly of Woonsocket, died unexpectedly on August 31, 2013 at the Landmark Medical Center. She was the beloved wife of William R. Tellier.
Born in Providence, a son of the late Victor J. and Hilda (Arruda) Luciano Sr., she lived in Woonsocket for many years.
Mrs. Tellier was a clerk in the nursing staffing and payroll department at Rhode Island Hospital for 32 years before retiring in 2008. Donna enjoyed reading, music, cooking and gardening. Her greatest love was spending time with her family.

ALVIN, TEXAS- Alfred Bureau Jr. passed away Thursday, August 8, 2013. Originally from Woonsocket, Rhode Island, Alfred moved to Alvin in 1984 where he resided with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Bureau; sons: Jacob and Laython; and grandson Judah. Family members include his father, Alfred Bureau Sr. from Blackstone, Mass.; siblings: Diane Nichols from Alvin, Texas, Scott Bureau from San Antonio, Texas, Tracy Walsh from Woodstock, Conn., and Dawn Fafard from Pascoag, R.I.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
