BURRILLVILLE- Michael L. Allan, 58, died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013 at Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket.
Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Leslie and Doris (Smith) Allan. He lived in the Pascoag section of Burrillville.
Michael retired from Verizon in 2008 after working for them for 25 years.

BURRILLVILLE- Brother Paul E. Parenteau, S.C., 88, also known as Brother Eric, of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Provincial House, Pascoag, RI, died August 29, 2013 at Overlook Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Pascoag, RI.
Born in Biddeford, Maine, he was the son of the late Aldeus and Rosilda (Gervais) Parenteau.

HARRISVILLE- Minerva Fernandez, 64, of Harrisville, formerly of Woonsocket, died Wednesday afternoon at Hebert Nursing Home in Smithfield.
Born in Puerto Rico, she was a daughter of the late Joaquin and Andrea (Santiago) Castro. Minerva was raised in Puerto Rico and came to the United States as a teenager. She lived in Pennsylvania and Waltham, MA and had been a resident of Woonsocket for many years before moving to Harrisville several years ago.
Mrs. Fernandez was employed in the local textile industry prior to retiring.

Celebrating the virtues of work on Labor Day

More than 500 visitors stopped by the Museum of Work & Culture on Labor Day to take advantage of its offer of free admission all-day Monday and also to participate in special programs, including a new one-act play and the opening of an exhibit on the Italian Workingmen’s Club in the upstairs gallery, according to Raymond H. Bacon, museum co-manager with Anne Conway.

“It went very, very well,” Bacon said of the museum’s 14th annual special opening for Labor Day. “I am so pleased that the IWC is celebrating its 85th Anniversary with an exhibit at the museum.”
