NASCAR driver pays visit to Woonsocket

LADY LAKE, FLA- Letitia D. Hayes (Boris), 81, died Saturday, Sept 14, 2013 at her home in The Villages, Lady Lake, Fla. Formerly of Ellington, CT, she was the widow of Paul Boris, and is survived by her first husband, Robert K. Hayes.
A native of Blackstone, she was a daughter of the late John and Frances (Dwyer) Donlon.

BLACKSTONE- John R. Robinson, Sr., 85, of Chestnut St., died September 16, 2013 in Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket. He was the husband of the late Helen (McMann) Robinson and companion of the late Lenora "Lolly" Pierannunzi for thirty-nine years.
Born in Blackstone, MA, he was the son of the late Roland and Anna (Bradley) Robinson.
A WWII Army Veteran, Mr. Robinson worked as a Truck Driver for Rosenfeld Concrete, Milford, MA for twenty-eight years. He was a member of the Woonsocket Elks and was an antique car enthusiast.

BLACKSTONE- Demers, Paul R. 57, of Blackstone, MA, died September 15, 2013 at the Rhode Island Hospital in Providence.
He was born in Woonsocket, RI, a son of the late Leo & Theresa (Ballou) Demers.
Paul worked as a truck driver for Owens & Miner Co. in Franklin, MA, previously working for the MA Turnpike Authority for many years. He was a resident of Blackstone for many years.
He is survived by a sister Donna Maddock, his nephews Christopher and his wife Jessica, Caiden, and a niece Haille, and nephew Dennis.

BURRILLVILLE- William P. Marcoux, 79 formerly of Bellingham, Ma. died Wednesday September 18, 2013 in Zamborano Hospital. He was the husband of the late Elaine (Hudon) Marcoux.
Born in Woonsocket, son of the late Lorenzo and Pauline (Arcand) Marcoux.
Mr. Marcoux worked at The Wrentham State School for 30 years, and also as a master pipe fitter, for Dennison Corp. for several years prior to retiring. He also served as Lt. on the Bellingham Rescue for several years.
He enjoyed spending time with his family especially the grandchildren whom he loved dearly.

City races set as Dubois confirmed for ballot

WOONSOCKET – The Board of Canvassers certified Councilman Marc A. Dubois as a candidate for reelection Wednesday, triggering a primary for 15 candidates in all.

The move ended a few hours of early suspense as the campaign season officially began, because all the other candidates were certified the night before. Dubois showed up at City Hall 25 minutes before the deadline Tuesday afternoon – too late for the canvassing staff to validate the signatures on his nomination papers.

WOONSOCKET- A. Paul "Moose" Young, 64, of Mason Street, died on September 16th in Home and Hospice Care of RI, Providence.
Born in Hartland, ME, he was the son of the late Oscar and Edith (Lyons) Young.
Paul was a Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War. He worked at many diverse jobs, including as an orderly in area hospitals.
He is survived by his fiancée, Karen Clark with whom he lived, his son, Christopher W. Young, and two sisters, Shirley Connor of Brockton, MA and Nancy Barnes of Woonsocket.

Two charged after brawl in apartment building

WOONSOCKET – It started out as a call to police dispatch that an intoxicated female had just pulled a false fire alarm, and it went downhill from there.

The ensuing pandemonium at 126 Earle St. Sunday included a confrontation with a knife-wielding woman barricading the front door of her apartment, and a violent wrestling match with a man who was allegedly reaching for a steak knife before police could get him in handcuffs.

Two people ended up in custody, including Thomas Patrick Biagetti, 49, who was charged with resisting arrest and assaulting Officer Linden Karsner.

Dubois adds drama to Woonsocket candidate filing deadline

WOONSOCKET – Four candidates for mayor will face off in a primary on Oct. 8, but whether a runoff will be needed for City Council races is still unclear this morning.

Fourteen candidates for City Council returned nomination papers with the required number of signatures to become electoral candidates as the deadline to do so passed yesterday at 4 p.m. However, a 15th candidate – incumbent Councilman Marc Dubois – delivered nomination papers so close to the deadline that the Board of Canvassers was unable to count and validate the signatures on them.
