BURRILLVILLE - Marshall, Robert A., 58, died Wednesday at home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Judith (Sinnott) Marshall.
Born in Pawtucket, a son of Ruth (Hanna) Marshall of Putnam, Ct. and the late Daniel Marshall, Sr. Bob was a lifelong Burrillville resident.
He was the owner of RA Marshall Piping Company in Burrillville for over 20 years. He enjoyed hunting and camping.

Irene S. Mathisen

CUMBERLAND- Irene S. Mathisen, 86, of Fisher Road, passed away Wednesday at Elmhurst Extended Care, Providence. She was the wife and childhood friend of John Mathisen whom she married 40 years later, and remained happily married for 40 more years.
Born in Union City, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Gustav and Anna (Dowling) Schoenleber. She resided in Cumberland for over 50 years, previously residing in Wayne, NJ.
Mrs. Mathisen was employed as a Real Estate Agent for Coleman Realty for many years and was a member of the RI Realtors Association.

EAST PROVIDENCE – Regrets? Every golfer has some upon the round’s conclusion.

The ones that Jamison Randall expressed followed his one-over 70 performance on Day 1 of the Northeast Amateur Invitational didn’t equate to the Cumberland lad singing the blues. Had the golf gods been kinder, perhaps Randall’s Wednesday score would have been closer to the low number Brazil’s Rafael Becker posted – a minus-seven 62 that featured an eye-popping eight birdies.

PawSox' DiSarcina: Honesty’s best policy with player moves

PAWTUCKET — Never has a trip to the principal’s office been more soothing and reassuring.

Score one for PawSox manager Gary DiSarcina for putting out the fire before it engulfed the clubhouse he oversees. There was a delicate situation that needed to be addressed with several Pawtucket players, and DiSarcina handled every last conversation with aplomb.

“That’s what the job of a manager is. You have to manage those people,” stated DiSarcina matter-of-factly.

LINCOLN – Casie Beauchemin, Lincoln High's heralded junior right fielder, sat back on a bench in front of the school early Wednesday afternoon trying to convey how incredible it felt to be a part of a team that not only captured two consecutive state Division I titles, but did so with an unblemished 43-0 mark.

Joseph Almond, CEO John Taylor and other dignitaries cut a ceremonial red ribbon Wednesday to officially initiate Las Vegas style-table games at Twin River, ushering in yet another new era at a facility that has morphed over the decades from a horse racing track, to a dog track to a slot parlor and now to a full-fledged casino.

MANVILLE- Anna (Dypry) Recorvits, 99, a resident of the Holiday Retirement Home passed away peacefully on Wednesday at the home with her family by her side. She was the loving wife of the late Michael Recorvits.
Born Dec. 17, 1913 in Valley Falls, RI, she was the daughter of the late Paul & Josephine (Lass) Dypry.

BURRILLVILLE- Jeannette V. Ethier, resident of Pascoag, formerly of Harrisville, died June 17, 2013, at the Overlook Nursing Home.
She was the wife of the late Joseph Ethier.
She was born in Harrisville, RI, daughter of the late Ernest & Clara (Tatro) Boucher.
Jeannette worked in area textiles many years retiring from the former Desmon Mill Co. in Woonsocket in 1982. She was a member of the Burrillville Senior Citizens, the Ashton Court Club, the Northwest Choralers, and the Glocester Womens Bowling League.

COLFAX. CA- Viola Slowick was born Valeria Narkiewicz in Pawtucket in 1915.
She grew up in the area, and worked in Quonset during World War II as a Rosie the Riveter defense worker.
After the war, she married John A. Slowick in 1946, and they lived in Woonsocket until John died in 1999. John ran the Slowick Brothers Garage in Social for many years.
