Baldelli-Hunt sworn in as mayor

WOONSOCKET – Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt proclaimed “a new day is dawning” in this down-on-its-luck city after taking the oath of office at the Stadium Theatre Tuesday night.

“The hard work begins tomorrow and we will not waste a minute turning this city around,” said a gleaming Baldelli-Hunt.

N. Smithfield downed by Exeter/West Greenwich, 21-13

WEST GREENWICH --- For the fourth straight season, North Smithfield is one and done in the Division IV playoffs.

Senior fullback Dwight Anderson scored three touchdowns and teamed with quarterback Jacob Hornoff to pick up over 180 yards on the ground to guide Exeter/West Greenwich to a 21-13 victory over N.S. on Tuesday night under the glare of portable lights on the Knights’ campus.

BELLINGHAM- Robert L. Paulhus, 80, of Highland Rd. died Friday November 22, 2013 at home with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Muriel D. (Jodoin) Paulhus.
Born in Woonsocket, son of the late Albert J. and Clara E. (Richard) Paulhus.
He worked as a Foreman for Polytop for 30 years retiring in 1996.
He was a United States Air Force Veteran serving in the Korean Conflict.

WOONSOCKET- James (Jimmy) Allen, 89, formerly of River St. died Saturday November 30, 2013 in Trinity Health Center, with his family by his side. He was the husband of the late Odessa (Wilson) Allen.
Born in Newberry, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Francis Allen.
Jimmy was employed at the Shipyard, Uniroyal, Foxboro Racetrack, and Ocean State Finishing until his retirement.
Jimmy was well liked by all who knew him; He loved his family and enjoyed playing cards at the café.
He was a member of the Tyra Club.

CUMBERLAND- Mark A. Cook 51, of Cook Rd. died Monday, December 2, 2013 at home. He was the husband of Debra (Benoit) Cook.
Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Wesley and Phyllis-Ann C. (Poirier) Cook Sr.
Mark was an inventory specialist for CVS-Caremark Inc. for over twenty seven years and a dedicated employee. He was an avid Patriots fan, but his greatest joy was spending time with his grandson and family.

WOONSOCKET- Simone G. (Duval) Harrison, 87, formerly of Kennedy Manor, passed away Sunday at the St. Antoine Residence, North Smithfield. She was the wife of the late Frederick B. Harrison.
Born in Woonsocket she was the daughter of the late Paul and Helen (Arel) Duval. She was a life-long resident of Woonsocket.
Mrs. Harrison was employed as a Floor Lady for the Narragansett Knitting Mills for over 50 years.

WOONSOCKET- David B. Thereault 42, Woonsocket, died Friday, November 29 in Landmark Medical Center.
He was born in Woonsocket, a son of Margaret Thereault.
Mr. Thereault was a laborer for Woonsocket Parks and Recreation for many years before retiring in 2010 due to illness.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his son Devan Thereault of Woonsocket, a sister Brenda Figueroa and her husband Nick, and her son Christian and her daughter Cheyenne of Providence, and a brother William Thereault of Woonsocket.

WOONSOCKET – A 52-year-old Woonsocket man died in a fast moving fire that
broke out in his Lydia Avenue home just after 6 a.m. Tuesday
Woonsocket Fire Chief Timothy Walsh said firefighters arrived at the scene
around 6:15 a.m. to find heavy flames in the living room area of the
one-story house on Lydia Avenue, located off Gadoury Boulevard. The fire
was contained within 30 minutes.
When firefighters entered the house they found the victim and pulled him
out, Walsh said. The victim, whose name has not yet been released, was
