Mount St. Charles finishes off La Salle in two games, wins state hockey championship

The hockey program at Mount St. Charles added another championship to its proud heritage on Saturday night after posting a 5-2 victory over La Salle Academy at Brown University's Meehan Auditorium. The victory completes a two-game sweep for the Mounties, who captured their 43rd state title.

Lincoln beats Prout in overtime for Div. II title

PROVIDENCE – Lincoln High sophomore goalkeeper Chris Leclaire had been stationed in his own cage, well over 120 feet away, when his teammates on the Meehan Auditorium ice began a massive celebration.
Fractions of a second before, he had watched junior forward Griffin Hevey knock a routine skimmer from just inside the opponent's blue line at freshman netminder Austin Gemma.

Cumberland High students support local student with an ocean of orange

CUMBERLAND – Students at Cumberland High School on Friday had Aydan Nyberg in their hearts – and on their sleeves.
Aydan, an eight-year-old student of the Cumberland Hill Elementary School, has been battling cancer since age 3 and has inspired the school to show support for him in a variety of ways, including wearing orange-colored clothing -- because orange is his favorite color -- and holding a number of fundraising projects.

Mounties make bold statement in opener of state finals

PROVIDENCE — Whatever Mount St. Charles head coach Dave Belisle told his kids in the dressing room after the second period, it worked wonders.
Or is that an understatement?
The Mounties exploded for five unanswered tallies in the third – incredibly in a span of just 9:35 – to pummel La Salle Academy, 7-0, in this initial tilt of the best-of-three R.I. Championship Division series at Meehan Auditorium on Friday night.

WOONSOCKET- Rene J. Beaudet 94, formerly of Crepeau Court, died March 15, 2013 at Trinity Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of the late Alice (Desrosiers) Beaudet.
Mr. Beaudet is survived by his loving family, sons Nelson Beaudet and his wife Phyllis of Plainfield, CT, Roger Beaudet and his wife Sue of Woonsocket, a daughter Pauline Murray of North Smithfield, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. WOONSOCKET- Thomas Michael Bell, 62 of Brookhaven Lane, passed away Wendesday at the Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket. He was the husband of Rebecca (Meyer) Bell, and they had been married for the past 37 years.
Born in Springport, Indiana, he was the son of the late Roscoe and June (Schultz) Bell. He resided in Woonsocket for the past 9 years, previously residing in Cumberland.
Mr. Bell was retired in October 2012.
He was avid antique car collector.

BURRILLVILLE-- Dennis R. "Moon" Gervais, 60, of Pascoag, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013 at Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Edgar Gervais and Virginia Moison.
Dennis was a truck driver for many years and was currently employed at Atlas Pallet Inc. of Nasonville.

Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Joseph and Caroline (Kukla) Kogut.

Born July 3, 1926 in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Stanley J. & Anna (Ogarek ) Krzywicki.

PROVIDENCE – Though their two teams went a combined 8-24-3 in league play this season, Burrillville and Barrington put on a championship-caliber show Thursday night.
In a contest that went down to the wire, the Eagles got a third-period goal from Michael Lombardi and came up with a huge defensive stand in a frenzied final minute to win Game 1 of the Division I finals, 1-0, at Brown University’s Meehan Auditorium. The Broncos will try to push the best-of-three series to a decisive third game when the two teams reconvene Saturday afternoon at 4 o’clock.
