Baldelli questions fairness of supplemental tax plan

WOONSOCKET – State Rep. Lisa Baldelli-Hunt (D-Dist. 49) has signaled to the Budget Commission that she might not support the panel’s request for a $2.5 million supplemental tax bill, at least as it’s currently proposed.
Baldelli-Hunt said the plan puts too much of the burden on the owners of single-family homes and condos at the expense of all other classes of properties.

PROVIDENCE — As most people expected, No. 1 seeded Middletown and defending champion Juanita Sanchez won their Division III semifinal-round games on Monday night at Rhode Island College.
But they didn’t leave the Tripp Athletic Center without getting tough battles from Davies and North Smithfield, which despite coming up short in their respective bids to reach Sunday’s title game at URI’s Ryan Center, turned in admirable performances.

DAVENPORT, FL- Suzanne Michelle (Kuster) Pignolet born in Woonsocket RI, wife of Jules L. Pignolet (formerly) of Woonsocket RI, Daughter of Muriel (Theriault) Kuster of Florida and the late Robert E. Kuster, passed away Tuesday January 26th after a long battle with diabetes.
She is survived by a son, Peter L. Pignolet, of Clermont Florida; a sister, Charlotte L. Kuster, of Manville RI; and a brother, Robert E. Kuster, of Florida.

CELEBRATING IRELAND

Celebrating Ireland in Story and Song will be the featured event at the Woonsocket Harris Public Library on Saturday, March 9 at 2 p.m. With the Celtic harp, tin whistles, fiddle, button accordian and bodhran (Irish drum), Phil Edmonds, originally from County Clare, and Mary King, Rhode Island musician for decades, bring the sweet sounds of traditional Irish music and Irish folk tales for a fun, engaging program. Audience participation is encouraged. Their Celtic Music & Stories also features an introduction to Irish step dancing where the audience can learn to dance and perform in the show.

Levesque to receive Rotary’s Vocational Services Award

PROVIDENCE- Valerie Jane Howe of Providence RI passed away on March 2, 2013, 77.
Loving mother to Margaret and Robert Holmes and grandmother of Samantha and Christopher Uminski and Robert Holmes IV.
She is survived by her siblings George, Kathy, and John Howe. Dear friend to many including Judith Mereiros and Lucien Gosselin and a friend of Bill W.
She taught for 28 years for the Woonsocket RI school system. She was an avid traveler, reader, and writer who captivated many with her tales of adventure and extensive knowledge.

WOONSOCKET- Samuel Boyko, 87, of North Smithfield, died Thursday at Landmark Medical Center. He was the husband of Ruth E. (Daudlin) Boyko and the late Cecelia (Remillard) Boyko who died in 1989.
Born in Blackstone, he was a son of the late Michael and Irene (Magerowska) Boyko. He was raised in Blackstone and lived there until moving to North Smithfield where he made his home for over 50 years.

BURRILLVILLE- Marie E. Walker, 89, resident of Pascoag, RI peacefully passed away after a short illness on March 2, 2013, at Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket.
She was the loving wife of the late Roger P. Walker.
Born in Glendale, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Donalda (Giguere) Rouleau. She was a bus monitor for the former Nelson's Bus Company, Burrillville and previously worked in area textiles for many years. She was deeply involved in her faith and a communicant of St. Joseph's Church, in Pascoag and thoroughly enjoyed her trips to Foxwoods.

MILFORD MA -- Maurice J. Lambert, 81, of Birmingham Court, died Thursday February 28, 2013 in Milford Hospital with his caretaker Suzanne Bassett, of 27 years by his side.
Born in Woonsocket, son of the late Josephat and Lucianna (Berard) Lambert.
Moe enjoyed listening to music and watching country western dancing. He was an avid sports fan.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews and his caregiver Suzanne Bassett.
He is also survived by his canine companion Roxie, who he loved dearly.
He was the brother of the late Ralph, Armand, Leonard, and Laurier Lambert

GLOCESTER- Cook, Charles O., Jr., 89, passed away at home, Saturday, March 2, 2013. He was the beloved husband of Carolyn E. (Beebe) Cook for 59 years.
He was born in Woonsocket, a son of the late Charles O. and Hazel D. (Vose) Cook.
Mr. Cook worked in pipeline maintenance for 36 years for the Algonquin Gas Co. before retiring in 1989 and was a WWII Navy Veteran. Mr. Cook lived in Burrillville for 10 years before moving to Glocester 51 years ago. Mr. Cook enjoyed working his farm, tending to his animals and camping with his grandchildren and family.
