NORTH SMITHFIELD --- If unbeaten North Smithfield was looking for the perfect test to help the Northmen prepare for Thursday nightâ€™s duel between the Division IIIâ€™s other undefeated team, Middletown, the Northmen got one and then some on Tuesday night in the form of red-hot Mount Hope.
The Northmen, who entered the week capturing their seven league games by an average of 27 points, went the distance with the Huskies in a thrilling game that featured 14 lead changes, eight ties, and a boatload of three-pointers (19 of â€™em, 11 by the Huskies).
Jeannine D. Orazi
WOONSOCKET- Jeannine D. (Fournier) Orazi, 77 of Morin St., died unexpectedly, on Tuesday January 15, 2013, in Landmark Medical Center. She was the beloved wife of Gino Orazi.
Born in Manville, daughter of the late Ernest and Jeannette (Pelletier) Orazi.
She worked as a Seamstress, for McCarthy's for several years prior to retiring.
She was a member of St. Agatha's Senior Citizens and Local 328 Retirement Club.
She was an avid Bingo player and enjoyed an occasional trip to the Casino's.
Normand A. Bibeault
WOONSOCKET- Normand A. Bibeault, 90, of St. Joseph St., died January 15, 2013 at Trinity Health & Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of the late Anne (Plasse) Bibeault and later the husband of the late Cecile (St. Germain) Bibeault.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Herve and Anita (Gingras) Bibeault.
Edgar O. St. Pierre
JOHNSTON- Edgar O. St. Pierre, resident of Johnston died January 14, 2013 at the Home & Hospice Care of RI in Providence.
He was born November 9, 1923 in Woonsocket RI, a son of the late Ovide & Rosalba (Gallant) St. Pierre.
Edgar was a career Navy veteran serving 35 years; he was in WWII where he served in the Pacific on a LST. He was a resident of Johnston previously he lived in Mapleville. He was a member of the LST association.
WOONSOCKET â€“ Police are looking for a motorist who fired a handgun at the operator of another vehicle Sunday, causing the other driver to crash.
The alleged shooter was then involved in a crash with a third vehicle operated by the brother of the man he shot at, according to Detective Jamie Paone, spokeswoman for the Woonsocket Police Department.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Anthony LaCoste on multiple felony charges, said Paone.
WOONSOCKET â€“ After arranging the sale of marijuana through a series of text messages, a teenage boy and two men from Burrillville were ambushed, robbed at gunpoint and beaten by an armed gang on River Street Monday night, police say.
Police later captured one of the alleged assailants â€“ as many as five may have been involved â€“ and arrested him on a string of felonies.
NORTH SMITHFIELD â€” The parking lot at the new Lowe's store at Dowling Village was filled with vehicles Tuesday, but don't expect to shop there just yet.
The vehicles in the Lowe's lot belong to the contractors and workers getting the store ready for an upcoming opening.
Florence T. Ballou
WOONSOCKET- Florence T. Ballou 91, resident of Woonsocket died January 9, 2013 at the Ballou Home for the Aged.
She was born July 17, 1921 in Blackstone MA, a daughter of the late Walter F. & Eva (Charette) Ballou.
Florence worked for the former Branch River Worsted for twenty six years retiring in 1971. She was the former treasurer of St. Germain Manor Club. She was a member of the St. Louis Senior Citizens Club, and also served on the Woonsocket Tenants Board of Affairs for four years.
Paul A. Lanctot
WOONSOCKET- Paul A. Lanctot, 62, of Woonsocket, passed away at Landmark Medical Center on January 13, 2012.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Raymond and Claire (Paulhus) Lanctot.
Paul was a kitchen worker and general laborer for the Arc of Northern RI. He was a member of the Special Olympics, a long time Boy Scout and an avid bowler on his Sunday league. His favorite past time was dining out.
CUMBERLAND- Joseph Marcel Rosaire "Ross" Lamontagne, 79, died on December 25, 2012 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband for 61 years of Margaret Madeline (Bouchard) Lamontagne who has been his sweetheart since Junior High School.
He was the son of the late John and Angelina (Charbonneau) Lamontagne.
