Jean M. Porter

BELLINGHAM- Jean M. (Whitelaw) Porter, 78, of Bellingham died Mon. Nov. 4, 2013 at the Mary Ann Morse Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Natick. She was the wife of the late Thomas Porter.
Mrs. Porter had been employed as an accounting clerk for several retail and manufacturing companies in the area prior to her retirement.
She was born April 12, 1935 in Edinburgh, Scotland the daughter of the late David and Ella (Smith) Whitelaw and had been a resident of Bellingham since 1966.

WOONSOCKET – State Rep. Lisa Baldelli-Hunt (D-Dist. 49) swept to victory in the mayor’s race last night before a raucous and cheering crowd of supporters who seemed to relish the moment as much as she did.
The House lawmaker, who is midway through her fourth term, trounced incumbent Mayor Leo T. Fontaine by a margin of better than 2-1. The Board of Canvassers had the tally at 4,372-2,182.

WOONSOCKET -- The polls are closed and the votes are in: R.I. state Rep. Lisa Baldelli-Hunt beat out incumbent Mayor Leo Fontaine to become the next mayor. For details on the mayor's race and results on the City Council race, read Wednesday's Call.

Polls open until 8 tonight

Woonsocket residents have until 8 tonight to vote in the city's final off-year mayoral election.
The contested races, with state Rep. Lisa Baldelli-Hunt challenging incumbent Mayor Leo Fontaine and 14 candidates competing for seven City Council seats, are drawing moderate turnout on a clear but unseasonably cold day.
By 3 p.m., the city Board of Canvassers reported 3,865 votes had been cast, representing about 15 percent of the city's electorate.

OAKLAND- Michael M. Martin, 69, of 290 Whipple Ave, Oakland, RI died at his home, Monday morning, October 28th.
Born September 7th, 1944, he was the son of the late Harry and Karen (Strendvik) Martin, and also proceeded in death by his sister, Karen.
He was a graduate of Woonsocket High School and was a retired Teamster working for many trucking companies throughout his life. He was credited with over 2 million safe driving miles. Mr. Martin had an incredible passion for flying, accumulating over 5,000 hours of flying time.

WOONSOCKET- Joseph C. "Tony" Brissette 75, of Walnut Hill Rd. died Monday at home. He was the husband of Erika (Finster) Brissette.
Born in Pascoag he was a son of the late Joseph C. and Parmelia (Gaulet) Brissette.
Tony was a registered land surveyor for the State of RI for thirty three years before retiring in 1989. He was a US Air Force Veteran.

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO- Cheryl F. (Hawes) Arsenault 54, formerly of Woonsocket, died June 10, 2013 in Colorado Springs, CO, where she resided for the past twenty years.
She was born in Worcester, MA a daughter of the late Martin and Claire (Robillard) Hawes.
Cheryl worked as a waitress and hostess in several restaurants in Colorado Springs. She was a 1976 graduate of Woonsocket High School.

WOONSOCKET- Michael A. Roy, 59, of Woonsocket died peacefully Tuesday morning at Landmark Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the loving husband of Norma (Coutu) Roy. They were married on November 26, 1992.
Born in Woonsocket he was a son of the late Henry R. Roy, Sr. and Lucille (Riendeau) Roy. He was a lifelong resident the city.
Mike was employed at Bird Machine Inc. in South Walpole and was the proprietor of R &G Auto Sales in Uxbridge for many years.
