LINCOLN – A senior from the high school was reported hurt Thursday afternoon when the car he was driving struck a utility pole and rolled over onto its roof.
Police Chief Brian Sullivan said Devin Lambert, 18, of Main Street in Albion, had been heading south on Anna Sayles Road after leaving the school and struck the pole near the small rotary at Great Road.
The student was wearing a seatbelt and that may have prevented further injury in the incident, the chief said.
WOONSOCKET – It seemed like the case was all tied up, as police sometimes say, neat as a bow.
Alas, when Miguel A. Rondon confessed to stealing a pocketbook Wednesday, it was not to be.
Before the afternoon was over, a policeman would be head-butted by Rondon’s younger brother, a woman arrested for harboring a fugitive, and a missing juvenile flushed from hiding.

WOONSOCKET – Pauline Dubois raised eight kids and that means a lot of birthday cakes have been baked in her oven on Cass Avenue over the years.
“I grew up with Pauline’s son, Mike, and she would also make cakes for all the neighborhood kids on their birthdays,” says Albert Beauparlant, co-chairman of the city’s upcoming 125th anniversary Main Street block party celebration.
LINCOLN – It was pretty easy to see the frustration mounting inside Lincoln High senior righthander Lindsay Mayer during the R.I. Division I Fast-Pitch Softball Tournament winners' bracket final against always-gutsy Coventry on Saturday.
She'd fire a fastball, riseball or screwball, one she thought for sure would be called a strike at the belt or knees. Yet, when it wasn't, it would bug her to no end, as it would most All-State whirlers.
Libro Vario
NORTH SMITHFIELD- Libro "Lee" Vario, 91, resident of North Smithfield, passed away June 11, 2013.
He was the husband of the late Rosilda "Rose" (Marchand) Vario.
He was born in Woonsocket RI, a son of the late Joseph & Viola (Taglianetti) Vario.
Lee was co-owner of Vario Brothers Home Builders. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather; he enjoyed salt water fishing, gardening, and was an avid trumpet player. He was a member of the St. Anthony's Church Holy Ghost Society.
Roger L. Lambert
WOONSOCKET- Roger L. Lambert, 92, of Woonsocket, died Tuesday, June 11, 2013 in Oakland Grove Health Care Center. He was the husband of the late Frances A. (Mannigan) Lambert, whom he married in September 29, 1945.
Born in Woonsocket, RI, he was the son of the late Adelard and Grazuela (Fontaine) Lambert.
Fred J. Bridges
WOONSOCKET- Fred J. Bridges, 87, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2013 at the Woonsocket Health & Rehabilitation Ctr. He was the loving husband of the late Eileen M. (Chute) Bridges.
Born Jan. 3, 1926 in Childersburg, AL., he was the son of the late Fred & Pearl (Gallahar)Bridges, he resided in Woonsocket for many years.
Dorothy Sweatt
CUMBERLAND- Dorothy (Masnyk) Sweatt, 57, of Cumberland, passed away on Monday at Rhode Island Hospital. She was the loving wife of Walt Sweatt.
Born. Nov. 25, 1955 in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of Rose (Jaryniak) Masnyk of Woonsocket and the late Paul Masnyk.

PROVIDENCE — Less than two months ago, Coventry dealt Mount St. Charles its most agonizing loss of the regular season. On Tuesday night, the Oakers handed the Mounties the defeat that hurt them the most – the one that ousted them from the Division I playoffs.
The unbeaten Oakers rebounded from an opening-set loss and moved one win away from their first state championship since 1995 by rolling to a 3-1 triumph over the Mounties in their semifinal-round clash at the Providence Career & Technical Academy field house.
WOONSOCKET – The Budget Commission on Friday will consider asking the Rhode Island Department of Education for an advance of some $12 million in state aid from fiscal 2014 so the city can meet payrolls in July and satisfy other bills, including a $4.8 million debt service payment.
If approved, this would be the second year in a row that the commission has asked RIDE for an aid advance to ease through a fast-approaching cash crunch. Finance Director Thomas M. Bruce says the window is closing on other options.
