Woman killed in single-car crash in Cumberland

CUMBERLAND – A single-car crash that claimed the life of a 22-year-old woman on West Wrentham Road Thursday morning was discovered by a passing motorist, police said.
Deputy Police Chief George Stansfield said the department received a call regarding the accident at 8 a.m. from a motorist who spotted the wreckage off the road and in the woods.
The accident was reported to have occurred in the area of 80 West Wrentham Road, Stanfield said.

Firefighters battle 6-alarm blaze in Lincoln

LINCOLN – A fast moving six-alarm fire destroyed a significant portion of the historic Lonsdale Bleachery Mill complex Thursday night as scores of firefighters from Lincoln and surrounding northern Rhode Island communities did their best to contain it.

The fire came in as a box alarm from the mill complex at 5:12 p.m., according to Police Capt. Phillip Gould, and could be seen erupting from windows of a largely vacant mill building along the Blackstone River as fire companies arrived on scene.

LINCOLN - Firefighters from Woonsocket, Cumberland, Central Falls, Pawtucket and other communities assisted Lincoln Fire Department in battling a fast moving blaze at the vacant Lonsdale Bleachery that broke out about 5 p.m. on Halloween night. Fire crews doused the flames for several hours. The building partially collapsed. There was no word Thursday night on a cause. Read the full story, view additional photos in Friday's Call.

Fire at Lonsdale Mills

LINCOLN - A five-alarm fire ripped through the Lonsdale Mills early this evening.
Mutual aid was called from surrounding communities as flames were visible from well beyond the vacant mill, which early reports say has caused a partial collapse of the structure.
A reporter and photographer are at the scene, with more details coming as they are available.

BEDFORD- Lt. Col (Ret, USAF) Richard L. Ravenelle of 27 Buttonwood Road, Bedford died October 30th after a long illness.
Born September 5, 1929 in Woonsocket, RI, he was the son of Antonio and Germaine (Levesque) Ravenelle.

WOONSOCKET- Frances M. (Ferland) Gulowacz Roy, 93, of South Main St., Woonsocket died Wednesday evening at home with her children close to her. She was the wife of the late Walter Gulowacz and the late Wilfred Roy.
Born on May 29, 1920 in St. Norbert, P.Q. Canada she was a daughter of the late Ignace and Marie (Rondeau) Ferland. She lived in Boston before moving to Woonsocket in 1961.
Frances was a longtime communicant of Holy Family Parish. She was an avid reader and cherished spending time with her family.

WOONSOCKET- Simonne D. Desrosiers, 91, of St. Antoine Residence, in North Smithfield, formerly of Grandview Ave. died Tuesday at Landmark Medical Center. She was the wife of the late Bernard J. Desrosiers Sr.
Born in St. Aimee, P. Q. Canada, she was a daughter of the late Josephat and Eugenie (Parenteau) Tardif.

BOSTON – Wherever Arnie Beyeler goes, championships seem to follow.

One year after piloting the Pawtucket Red Sox to their first Governors’ Cup championship in 28 years, Beyeler received a promotion as the longtime minor-league manager joined the Boston Red Sox as the team’s first-base coach.
Just like that memorable September night when the PawSox celebrated the night away in Fort Mill, South Carolina, Beyeler found himself smack dab in the middle of another champagne-drenched celebration, this one taking place on a much brighter stage.
