Raymond A. Noury

PASCOAG- Raymond A. Noury, 90, of Pascoag, formerly of Woonsocket, died Friday at the Providence Veterans Administration Medical Center. He was the husband of Therese (Deshaie) Noury and the late Francoise E. (Daigle) Noury.
Born in Central Falls, he was a son of the late Joseph and Marie-Jeanne (Noury) Noury. He was raised in Central Falls and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Central Falls.

MILLVILLE, MA- Lorraine E. (Charon) Houle, 85, of Millville passed away Wed. Dec. 18, 2013, with her family by her side, in the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence, RI. She was the wife of the late Gaston R. "Gus" Houle who died in 1998.
A longtime resident of Millville, Mrs. Houle had been employed in the cafeteria at the Blackstone-Millville Regional High School for 22 years.
Lorraine was born Oct. 12, 1928 in Attleboro, MA the daughter of the late Harvey and Maria (Lisee) Charon.

Friends offer support to victim of alleged assault

WOONSOCKET – A 21-year-old city man faces felony domestic assault charges in an attack that left his 24-year girlfriend in critical condition at Rhode Island Hospital and shattered the holiday season for her family and friends.

Emmanuel Algaria of 316 Manville Road, was sent to the ACI in lieu of $10,000 surety bail following the alleged Dec. 13 assault, according to police.

Police have declined comment on the specifics of the case while the victim has remained at Rhode Island Hospital undergoing treatment for reported head injuries.

BURRILLVILLE – Late Friday night, Burrillville/Ponaganset Co-op exhibited masterful play while strolling to a 7-1 upset victory over Mount St. Charles at Adelard Arena, and the girls celebrated the unusual – and somewhat historic – decision with moxie.

Perhaps 17 hours later, head coach Marc Brissette conducted a serious meeting with his troops prior to their Division I/Emma League contest against the South County Co-op Storm inside Levy Arena.

Defending Division III champion Northmen win league hoops opener

WOONSOCKET – This definitely isn’t the same North Smithfield High that rolled to a perfect 24-0 mark in Division III action last winter en route to the state championship.

It nevertheless is formidable, and it showed in the Northmen’s 58-44 D-III season-opening victory at Mount St. Charles on Friday night.

Head coach T.J. Ciolfi’s bunch took advantage of senior center Peter Keenan’s “double-double,” which included a game-high 21 points and 16 rebounds with seven blocks; and its defense, which caused the Mounties a pair of dismal droughts lasting a total of 12:27.

AG, legislators hope to close kid porn loophole

PROVIDENCE – While possession and trafficking in sexually explicit images of children – kiddie porn or child pornography – is illegal, it is not against the law in Rhode Island if an adult sends or gives sexually explicit images of adults to a child.

Attorney General Peter Kilmartin is moving to close what he calls “a gaping hole in the state’s Internet safety and child protection laws.

Bad weather prompts church to call off living Nativity scene

BELLINGHAM - For the first time in four years, there will be no shepherds, angels or wise men this weekend re-enacting the birth of Jesus in the parking lot of the First Baptist Church on South Main Street.

Every year, during the weekend before Christmas, the small church performs a living Nativity outside on their church grounds, but the threat of rain on Sunday has forced the church to cancel this year’s event.

BELLINGHAM- Elizabeth (Thayer) Andrews, 85, a life-long resident of Bellingham, died Thursday, December 19, 2013. She was the beloved wife for 53 years of David E. Andrews who passed in 2010.
Born in Milford, MA on February 1, 1928, she was the daughter of Ruel and Marion (Patrick) Thayer. Her brother, Vincent, passed on in 1996.

MEDWAY, MA- Rev. Harold I. Archer 70, of Medway, MA died December 17, 2013 at home. He was the husband of Irina (Ivanozna) Archer.
Born in Providence, he was the son the late Lois (Barber) Dusablon and the late Irving F. Archer.
Rev. Archer was a pastor of the New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Framingham, MA.
He worked in the recovery ministry and was a missionary serving in Russia. He devoted his life to helping others. He also served in the U. S. Army as a combat engineer.
