BURRILLVILLE- Marie E. Walker, 89, resident of Pascoag, RI peacefully passed away after a short illness on March 2, 2013, at Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket.
She was the loving wife of the late Roger P. Walker.
Born in Glendale, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Donalda (Giguere) Rouleau. She was a bus monitor for the former Nelson's Bus Company, Burrillville and previously worked in area textiles for many years. She was deeply involved in her faith and a communicant of St. Joseph's Church, in Pascoag and thoroughly enjoyed her trips to Foxwoods.

MILFORD MA -- Maurice J. Lambert, 81, of Birmingham Court, died Thursday February 28, 2013 in Milford Hospital with his caretaker Suzanne Bassett, of 27 years by his side.
Born in Woonsocket, son of the late Josephat and Lucianna (Berard) Lambert.
Moe enjoyed listening to music and watching country western dancing. He was an avid sports fan.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews and his caregiver Suzanne Bassett.
He is also survived by his canine companion Roxie, who he loved dearly.
He was the brother of the late Ralph, Armand, Leonard, and Laurier Lambert

GLOCESTER- Cook, Charles O., Jr., 89, passed away at home, Saturday, March 2, 2013. He was the beloved husband of Carolyn E. (Beebe) Cook for 59 years.
He was born in Woonsocket, a son of the late Charles O. and Hazel D. (Vose) Cook.
Mr. Cook worked in pipeline maintenance for 36 years for the Algonquin Gas Co. before retiring in 1989 and was a WWII Navy Veteran. Mr. Cook lived in Burrillville for 10 years before moving to Glocester 51 years ago. Mr. Cook enjoyed working his farm, tending to his animals and camping with his grandchildren and family.

UXBRIDGE, MA- Samir H. Makarious, M.D., 70, of Uxbridge, died Fri. March 1, 2013 in Mass. General Hospital after a short illness. He was the husband of Shadia (Awad) Makarious.
He was an active member of St. Mark Coptic Church of Boston where he served as a member of the Board of Deacons. He also enjoyed painting.

Final Four-bound! N.S. defeats Prout, 58-50

PROVIDENCE — North Smithfield’s dream season remains very much alive.
The latest chapter to the on-going hit series “March of the Undefeated” took place Sunday night with fifth-seeded North Smithfield fighting tooth and nail to secure a 58-50 win against No. 13 seed Prout in the R.I. open state tournament quarterfinals at Providence College’s Alumni Hall. Now 26-0, North Smithfield heads to URI’s Ryan Center Friday night for a semifinal-round contest against Classical, the top seed in the 16-team tournament.

Cumberland, N.S. hockey teams face Game 3s tonight

NEWPORT --- The Rogers/Tiverton/Rocky Hill co-op team scored three goals in the last period, including the go-ahead score with 43 seconds left in the game, late Saturday night to net a 4-2 triumph over Cumberland at the St. George’s skating facility and force a third game in their Division II best-of-three quarterfinal-round series.

Schools await budget action

WOONSOCKET – The arrival of deadlines for school department work on the annual school budget have brought with them another reminder that city fiscal affairs are in the hands of a state-appointed Budget Commission.
School Committee member Anita McGuire-Forcier pointed out during the panel’s meeting on Wednesday that a draft school budget has traditionally been submitted to Mayor Leo T. Fontaine for his review on Feb. 28.

Ocean State native to make RI ballet debut March 23

WOONSOCKET — For former Woonsocket resident Corey Bourbonniere, it all started with a dream that turned into a reality thanks to a lot of hard work, passion and sacrifices.
On March 23 in Rhode Island College's Roberts Auditorium in Providence, the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre dancer and State Ballet of Rhode Island (SBRI) alumnus will dance the male lead role (Albrecht) in The State Ballet of Rhode Island’s matinee performance of “Giselle,” a timeless love story of romance, deception, betrayal and forgiveness.
Bourbonniere is looking forward to his hometown debut.

Walker and Keila Strick are dynamic duo for Northmen hoop squads

NORTH SMITHFIELD – While senior guard and tri-captain Walker Strick and his elated North Smithfield High teammates celebrated their first-ever state hoop championship on the Pizzitola Center floor last Sunday afternoon, head coach T.J. Ciolfi scrambled to find someone to film the happenings.
It didn't take long for him to see Keila Strick, senior tri-captain of the Northmen's girls squad. He immediately issued her his camera, and she went to work.

Notoriety is a natural byproduct of winning, especially when victories are strung, out one after another, without a blemish, like a string of pearls. Yet as North Smithfield head coach T.J. Ciolfi will attest, the wave of attention for their once-in-a-lifetime season hasn’t changed his Northmen in the slightest.
