CUMBERLAND â€“ The story Tuesday afternoon at the Monastery wasnâ€™t so much whether host Cumberland High would sweep its Northern Division tri-meet against other local foes.
They did, and then some.
Instead, it revolved around a rivalry that began last year. That is, how would Clipper sophomore Amy Laverty perform against junior Betsy Dumais, one of Burrillvilleâ€™s top harriers over the past decade or more.
Laverty captured this particular outing, outhustling Dumais to the finish line with a stellar 3.1-mile clocking of 19:50. She edged the runner-up Bronco by a mere four ticks.
Frances C. Lefebvre
NO. SMITHFIELD- Frances C. (Carter) Lefebvre, 78, of No. Smithfield, died Friday, September 20, 2013 in the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence. She was the wife of the late Raymond J. Lefebvre, whom she married November 3, 1951.
Born in Marlborough, MA, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Eleanor (Jaworek) Carter.
Muriel G. Roberts
WORCESTER- Muriel G. (Dunton) Roberts, 81, formerly of Millville, died Sunday, in the Golden Living Center. She was the wife of the late Wilfred Roberts.
Muriel was born in Providence a daughter of the late Francis and Germaine (Guillette) Dunton.
Dorothea V. Mancini
VERO BEACH, FL- Mancini, Dorothea V. "Dottie" (Maher), 72, of Vero Beach, FL, formerly of Providence and Burrillville, died September 23, 2013 at the home of her son, Robert. She was the wife of the late William P. Mancini.
Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late William and Rose (Pesaturo) Maher and stepdaughter of the late Thomas Maher.
BLACKSTONE- Jaimie Michael Connors, 41, of Blackstone, MA died Monday September 23, 2013 as a result of a car accident.
He was born in Woonsocket, RI, the son of Dennis Connors and his wife Christine of Hyannisport, MA, and Darlene Cournoyer and her husband Bruce of Manville, RI.
Jaimie attended Nipmuc Regional High School in Mendon, MA. He was a Fire Alarm Technician and was employed by All State Fire Protection of Lincoln, RI.
Philip A. Levesque
CUMBERLAND- Levesque, Philip A. 96, of Cumberland died on August 18th at home after a short illness. He was the husband of the late Anita C. Richer and father of the late Janice T. Levesque.
He started work in 1936 as a lineman for the Blackstone Valley Electric Company in Woonsocket. He retired in 1973, after 37 years, from National Grid as a dispatcher. Upon his retirement, he returned to school receiving
Vera O. St. Sauveur
JAMESTOWN- Vera O. St. Sauveur (Beckwith), 84, of Jamestown and Kenneth City, FL, passed away Saturday, September 21, 2013. She was the beloved wife of Charles F. St. Sauveur, Jr.
Born in Woonsocket, RI she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Louise (Quinn) Beckwith.
Mrs. St. Sauveur was an active communicant of St. Mark Parish. She was a member of the Senior Center Community in St. Petersburg, FL. She enjoyed playing the piano.
BOSTON â€“ Gary DiSarcina and Rich Sauveur thought they were positioned well out of harmâ€™s way. Perched in a far corner inside the champagne-soaked, music-blaring, jolly-good-time party scene that was the Red Soxâ€™ clubhouse following last Fridayâ€™s division clincher, the two Pawtucket Red Sox coaches were more than content to be innocent bystanders.
But what soon followed was a moment that could very well summarize the impact that DiSarcina, Sauveur and the rest of the 2013 PawSox had on the newly minted American League East champs.
NORTH SMITHFIELD â€“ The rescue greyhound from Saint Paul Street that was attacked by a neighborâ€™s pit bull has died as a result of its injuries, family members have confirmed.
Mike Calo said the dog, Lady, succumbed Friday afternoon in an East Greenwich veterinary hospital, one week after the mauling.
He said the cause of death was heart failure due to complications resulting from the attack.
Sherman Williams Jr.
WOONSOCKET- Sherman Williams Jr. 63, of Transit St., died Saturday September 21, 2013 in the Phillip Hulitar Inpatient Center with his family by his side. He was the husband of Evelyn (Jette) Williams.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, son of the late Sherman and Goldie Lee (Fergerson) Williams Sr.
He worked on the assembly line at General Motors for 34 years and also as a certified welder and truck mechanic for Atlas Pallet prior to retiring.
He was a United States Army Veteran.
He also was a member of the Amvets Fairmount Post 85.
