BLACKSTONE â Police closed portions of St. Paul Street early Wednesday after a tractor-trailer got stuck underneath a railroad bridge.Â
The truck got stuck about 8 a.m., forcing authorities to close St. Paul Street in both directions from the Blackstone Municipal Center at 15 St. Paul St. all the way up to Route 102 near North Smithfield line.
WOONSOCKET â The last hurrah of the cityâs 125th Anniversary Arch of Triumph will be observed with a celebratory cookout for volunteers and supporters this evening, followed by a final lighting of the 72-foot high locally created work of art on Main Street.
WOONSOCKET â A veteran Woonsocket police captain is one of four finalists for the police chief job in Uxbridge.
Detective Cpt. Edward J. Lee Jr., a longtime city cop who currently oversees the detective division in Woonsocket, is vying for the Uxbridge position along with three other candidates, including Smithfield Police Cpt. Robert Eaton, Auburn, Mass., Det. Lt. Jeffrey Lourie; and interim Uxbridge Police Chief Lt. Peter B. Emerick.
WOONSOCKET â Head coach Andrew Rao couldnât and wouldnât argue the point that his Woonsocket High club, as depleted as it was, exhibited rather solid play in a 2-0 loss to South Kingstown at Barry Field on Wednesday afternoon.
After all, he had to face his Division I opener without the services of junior sweeper Nathan Sengsavang, who received what Rao deemed an unwarranted red card in a recent non-league game against Mount St. Charles, and also senior captain and forward Tyler Pacheco, who suffered a knee injury just two minutes into this affair.
WOONSOCKET- Ronald N. Beauregard, 64, of Woonsocket died Tuesday at Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island in Providence. He was the loving husband of Lynne P. Dias. They were marred on March 26, 2007. Ron was also the former husband of Paulette (LEtoile) Beauregard of Woonsocket.
Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Victor and Grace (Houle) Beauregard.
Claire L. Lemoine
WOONSOCKET- Claire L. (Morin) Lemoine, 93, of Woonsocket passed away peacefully on Monday, September 2, 2013 at The Holiday, Manville, RI. She was the beloved wife of the late Jacques R. Lemoine.
Born in Woonsocket on April 28, 1920, she was the daughter of the Aime and Adele (Lizotte) Morin.
Frederick O. Klockars
NO. SMITHFIELD- Frederick O. Klockars, 89, of No. Smithfield, died September 5, 2013 in The Friendly Home, Woonsocket. He was the husband of Inez (Newsome) Klockars whom he married August 9, 1947.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Carl and Althea (Djurken) Klockars.
Patricia Thifault McPeters
BELMONT, N.C. - Patricia (Thifault) McPeters, 68, passed away August 12, 2013. Born in Woonsocket, RI, daughter of the late Harold W. Thifault.
She is survived by her loving husband Gerald Frank McPeters of Belmont, NC, daughter of Myrtle King Thifault Morin of Blackstone, MA, 8 brothers; Kenneth, Alan, Robert, James, Richard, Gerald, Edward and Harold, 2 sisters; Debra and Shelley.
Service was held at the East Belmont Church of God on August 15, 2013.
WOONSOCKET â Carrying on a tradition that they started in 2001, members of the United Veterans Council of Woonsocket and the Veterans of Foreign Wars will hold a remembrance ceremony today marking the 12th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on America.
BURRILLVILLE â In a town that had its share of serious accidents over the summer, including a July 11 crash that killed two teenagers, two Burrillville High School educators have joined forces with local police to drive home the message to student drivers about the dangers of distracted driving.
On Sept. 26, the high school will be the host school for the âNational Save a Life Tour,â a high-impact distracted driving awareness program that travels around the country to educate students about the dangers of districted driving and driving drunk.
