Harold R. Belknap

SLATERSVILLE- Harold R. Belknap, 81, of Slatersville, died August 2, 2013 in his home. He was the husband of Christine M. (Van Dyke) Belknap for nearly sixty years.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Harold M. and Evelyn (Hartshorn) Belknap.
Harold worked at the Woonsocket Call for 35 years retiring in 1986 as the Advertising Manager. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Harold was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Millville, MA

Autumnfest 2013 headliners include Chiffons, Teenagers, other hitmakers

Autumnfest is celebrating 35 years in 2013 and is proud to announce its 2013 headliners.

Saturday night Oct. 12 at 6 Autumnfest presents a Doo Wop Spectacular starring The Legendary Teenagers, The Chiffons, and Dicky Doo and The Don'ts, featuring Gerry Granahan, all performing with the Coast-to-Coast band emceed by Todd Baptista. The show will run from 6-9 p.m. followed by a meet-and-greet with all the performers to allow the public a chance for autographs.

Lincoln crushes N.H.; rematch with Vermont on tap

BRISTOL, Conn. — As soon as Little League New England Regional Tournament officials asked the Lincoln All-Stars to walk to home plate to greet “Dugout,” the event’s mascot, Aaron DeSousa knew what was coming
.
Together with foe Rye, N.H., they performed the dance accompanying the tune prior to their contest, and it looked like they had a blast doing it.

“I remember other teams doing that from years before, when I was watching on TV,” DeSousa said. “I kind of expected it once they called us over. While we were dancing, it took all the butterflies away. I just didn’t feel as nervous.”

Block party will rock

WOONSOCKET – Organizers of the biggest block party on the East Coast have announced the entertainment lineup for a dozen stages that will stretch for a half-mile through downtown.
It’s all part of the city’s 125th anniversary celebration scheduled for Aug. 29, spearheaded by Mayor Leo T. Fontaine and a dedicated band of volunteers. The Call is the designated media partner for the event.
Stage 1, at 2 Main St., will feature the Meadowlarks, a big band group with a dozen members.
Stage 2, 20 Main St. will feature country music with a band to be announced.

City to get Arch of Triumph

WOONSOCKET – As this struggling French-Canadian enclave 40 miles south of Boston marks its 125th anniversary, it’s putting out a defiant message of hope by building its own version of France’s iconic Arc de Triomphe.
The Woonsocket Arch of Triumph will be an exact one-third size mockup of the original – small next to the Parisian version, but still massive in comparison to most of the neighboring local architecture – 68 feet high and 50 feet wide.

WOONSOCKET- Lena Mary (Maurici) Losardo-Bruneault, 89, formerly of Providence St. died Wednesday August 7, 2013 in Grandview Nursing Home with her loving family by her side.
She was the wife of the late Raymond Losardo and Lionel Bruneault.
Born in Boston, Ma. daughter of the late Rosario and Cecilia (Tabbi) Maurici.

WOONSOCKET- Joyce A. (Ducharme) Smith, 72, of Fall St, died Saturday August 2, 2013 at home with her family by her side. She was the wife of Arnold Smith.
Born in Providence, R.I. daughter of the late Roderick and Beatrice (Ducharme) Ducharme.
Joyce worked as an Insurance Agent for R.P. Smith & Son for 30 years, prior to retiring.
Joyce enjoyed working on Sudoku and Jigsaw Puzzles ,and playing Solitaire. She also enjoyed knitting blankets, for her family.

LINCOLN- Virginia (Babiana) Gingras Baker, 76, of Lincoln, died August 4, 2013 in her home. She was the wife of the late DeForest L. Baker, Lt. Commander retired, US Navy, who died in 2010 and Paul A. Gingras who died in 1987.
She was the daughter to the late George and Mary (Andry) Babiana.

NORTH FORT MYERS FLORIDA- Aurore Patrie, 93, lifelong resident of the Woonsocket area passed away in Florida on August 3rd.
She was the daughter of Omer and Clarinda (Richard) Laramee.
Pre-deceased by brothers Omer, Henri, Arsene, Joseph, Marcel and Lucien Laramee, sisters Angelina Cartier, Eva Blondin, Anita Glaude and Georgette Berard. She is survived by a son, Sylvio Patrick Glaude and daughter (whom she lived with in Florida) Therese B. Hughes.

WOONSOCKET — Navigant Post 85 co-coaches Buster Perrault and Jim Gauthier had been set to retire last year from the everyday grind of not only mentoring their players, but making sure they all (or as many as possible) could attend necessary practice sessions and contests.

Another chore: Rounding up enough sponsors to pitch in – ponder the pun – and make sure they had enough funds to uniform the entire roster, purchase baseballs and necessary equipment, etc.
