Woonsocket firefighters train for dire winter emergencies

WOONSOCKET – No one wants to end up in icy water in the middle of February, even if you are a firefighter. But as fire officials know all too well, accidents happen, and people and even animals do fall through ice in winter and need help — quick and knowledgeable help.

So out at Harris Pond last week, members of the Woonsocket Fire Department were putting themselves to the test and finding out what it would be like to work in the cold and potentially deadly water if an emergency required them to do so.
