CUMBERLAND – It’s been a good stretch for Cumberland High, one that has the Clippers on the brink of postseason participation.
The latest step took place Friday night against neighboring school Lincoln as Cumberland survived a double overtime affair, 64-61. Now 8-9 in Division II-North and winners of three of their last four, the Clippers close out the regular season next Tuesday at home against division rival North Providence.
WOONSOCKET â When Jose M. Giles started lifting the barrel of his .22-caliber rifle, Lt. Brad Scully wasnât sure where he was going to point it.
âMy main concern as Iâm approaching him, obviously, is that heâs going to point it at us, the police,â said Scully. âI was surprised somebody behind me didnât shoot him.â
Estelle N. Giard
WOONSOCKET- Estelle N. Giard 85, formerly of 547 Clinton St., died Wednesday at The Holiday surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Lionel E. Giard, whom she married October 20, 1951.
Born in Central Falls, she was a daughter of the late Oscar and Olivine (Beauregard) Poulin.
Mrs. Giard was a cashier and seamstress for Rathbun Outlet for twenty two years before retiring in 1991. She was also a seamstress for Giard's Dry Cleaners.
WOONSOCKET- Donald K. Marcheterrre, Sr., 55, died Wednesday evening at home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the loving husband of Linda Marie (Griffin) Marcheterre. They were married on December 6, 1980.
Born in Hudson, MA he was a son of Judith (Bruen) Marcheterre of Hudson and the late Normand G. Marcheterre, Sr.
He was raised in the Hudson/Marlboro area and lived in Woonsocket for over 25 years having also lived in Florida for 5 years.
Eva L. Dana
DUXBURY, MA- Eva L. (Teague) Dana, of Duxbury, died peacefully at her home on February 12th, at the age of 101.
Eva "Bunny" Dana was the beloved wife of C.Lincoln Dana MD. She is survived by her sons Jon P. Dana OD of Longmeadow, Bradford L. Dana of Elgin, Il. and her daughter, Jane Dana Vouros of Newtown, Ct. She also leaves her cherished grandson, Erik L. Dana of Longmeadow.
Richard Nelson Morin
MARSTONS MILLS MA- Richard Nelson Morin, 66, died at his home in Marstons Mills MA on February 13, 2014, whole again and at peace after battling prostate cancer for 13 years.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Morin, Marstons Mills; sons Peter Morin, Sarasota FL, Robert Morin, Sarasota FL, and Michael Morin, Quincy MA; and his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara Lynch and William McAllister, The Villages FL.
WOONSOCKET - A Burrillville man is facing weapons and alcohol charges after threatening suicide outside Landmark Medical Center Thursday nght, forcing a lockdown of the facility.
Jose Giles, 55, has been booked by Woonsocket police on charges of
possession of a firearm after being convicted of a crime of violence, carrying a weapon while intoxicated, carrying a loaded weapon in a motor vehicle, discharging a firearm in a compact area and resisting arrest.
