WOONSOCKET â The state Budget Commission running city financial affairs indicated during its meeting in Harris Hall on Monday that it still has questions about a plan to implement a full-day kindergarten program in local schools in the fall and wonât consider the change until additional supportive information has been submitted by the School Department.
WOONSOCKET â In one of the biggest personnel moves sheâs made since taking office, Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt appointed Deputy Fire Chief Paul A. Shatraw as the next permanent chief of the Woonsocket Fire Department.
Shatraw, 48, is a 28-year veteran of the fire department who worked his way up through the ranks after starting out as a private in 1986.
WOONSOCKET â The public has been invited to remember George Nasutiâs many contributions this Saturday at Woonsocket Highâs Saravia Gymnasium beginning at 2 p.m.
âItâs going to be a celebration of life,â said Carnell Henderson, Woonsocketâs head football coach and for now the primary overseer of Villa Novan athletics.
While some of the details pertaining to this open celebration are either still in the process of becoming finalized or remain under wraps until Saturday, Henderson confirmed that there would be a speaking program.
UXBRIDGE- Thomas "Mac" McMurray passed away surrounded by his loving family on February 23, 2014.
Warren J. Hebert
BURRILLVILLE- Warren J. Hebert, 63, of Mapleville, RI, passed away February 23, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was the loving husband of forty three years, to Colleen (Casper) Hebert.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Joseph & Ruth (Minot) Hebert.
Louise Z. Talabac
WOONSOCKET- Louise Z. (Bici) Talabac, 99, of Poplar St. formerly of Prospect St.
Died Friday February 21, 2014 in the Woonsocket Health and Rehabilitation Center, with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late Vanghel Talabac.
Born in Korce, Albania, daughter of the late Ilia and Hrisula (Rigea) Bici.
Mrs. Talabac worked as a wool sorter for the former Machtaz Mills, in Millville, Ma. for several years.
She was a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of St. John's Romanian Orthodox Church.
Douglas L. Follett
NORTH SMITHFIELD- Douglas L. Follett, 86, of Follett St., died Saturday Feb. 22, 2014 in the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence. He was the husband of Lillian (Kollett) Follett whom he married July 10, 1954.
Born in Woodland, CA he was the son of the late Leslie and Laura (Smith) Follett.
