WOONSOCKET- Richard A. Palreiro, 79, of Woonsocket, passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2014.
Born in Fall River, MA on October 14, 1934, he was the son of the late William and Mary (Tavares) Palreiro, Sr.
He was the brother of the late William Palreiro, Jr. and leaves his nieces Donna Palreiro of Woonsocket and Lorraine Boulay of Providence, and his late nephew Michael Palreiro.

WOONSOCKET- Stella (Michalik) Swierk, 93, of Woonsocket, passed away peacefully on Tuesday at the Friendly Home. She was the loving wife of the late Matthew Swierk.
Born January 31, 1921 in Uxbridge, MA., she was the daughter of the late John & Mary (Kieronski) Michalik.
Stella was a secretary for the Stanley Woolen Co. and then the former Taft Peirce Co. before retiring. She leaves a sister Rose Szerlag of Northbridge, MA. also several nieces & nephews. She was the sister of the late Peter, Bruno & Joseph Michalik and Helen Edge.

UXBRIDGE- Romeo L. "Romy" Hebert, 77, of 15 Bruce St. died Tue. March 25 at home after an illness.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years Constance A. "Connie" (Savage) Hebert; a daughter Linda E. Graham of Uxbridge; a son James E. Hebert of Uxbridge; 7 grandchildren Christopher Givner, Stephanie Hebert, Jennifer Givner, Michael Hebert, Timothy Graham, Cory Graham, and Lyndsey Hebert; a great-granddaughter Savannah Givner; and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by 2 brothers Julien Hebert and Rudolph Hebert.

Woonsocket Little League, Rhode Island Athletic Club offer offseason training to young ballplayers

WOONSOCKET — Now that it's official, that the East Woonsocket and Bernon Little Leagues have merged to form one massive Woonsocket Little League, secretary Lisa Godfrin and Rhode Island Athletic Club co-owner Mike Reynolds more or less have done the same – and in an unusual sort of way.
Because some of the children involved may not know each other as well as they perhaps would like, Godfrin and Reynolds chose to put together an offseason training regimen at the club, located at 600 Social St.

Site for water treatment plant not a done deal

WOONSOCKET – Even though the city has already spent $390,000 on land to build a future water treatment plant, the Budget Commission has instructed an engineering company to re-evaluate five other sites that were previously rejected by an advisory panel.
At the urging of Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt, the commission voted 3-1 to hire the firm Camp, Dresser McKee to include the review as a component of a broader, $327,000 contract related to the plant.

WOONSOCKET- Marsha (Wagner) Shaver, 84, of Woonsocket passed away on March 24, 2014. She was the wife of the late Dr. Arthur Shaver for sixty-three years.
Born in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Jean (Napsky) Wagner.
She is survived by her son Jeffrey and his wife Nadine of Providence and her daughter Dena Stern and her husband Dr. Jeffrey Stern of Stratham, NH. Marsha also leaves two grandchildren, Samantha and Skyler Stern and a twin sister, Elaine Winer of CA. She was the sister of the late Rae Sacks of FL.

BURRILLVILLE- Jacqueline N. "Jackie" Lozy, 52, of Glendale, RI passed away March 24, 2014 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Central Falls, RI, daughter of Blanche (Laliberte) Anderson of Glendale and the late George Anderson.

UXBRIDGE- Camilla C. (Malisz) Czupryna, 95, of Uxbridge passed away on Sunday March 23, 2014 in the Lydia Taft House in Uxbridge. She was the wife of the late Stanislaus H. Czupryna who died in 1966.
Mrs. Czupryna had been employed in the cafeteria at the former Draper Corp. in Hopedale and had previously worked at Scott’s Mill and J.S.B. Yarns at Wacantuck Mill, both in Uxbridge.

R.I. Interscholastic League's PCOA raises concerns about fan conduct at boys' hockey games

PROVIDENCE — Based on Monday’s discussion amongst the Rhode Island Interscholastic League’s Principals’ Committee, there appears to be growing concern with regard to fan behavior at boys’ high school hockey games.

“We feel that we’ve seen and heard of more issues happening at the rink. Not really players, but parents and students in the stands,” expressed Tom Mezzanotte, RIIL executive director.
