John F. Mousseau

BURRILLVILLE - John F. Mousseau, passed away, Sunday, July 27, 2014 at Tockwotton on the Waterfront, East Providence, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Claire (Menard) Mousseau, whom he married on Nov. 25, 1961. They resided in Mapleville and were lifelong residents of Burrillville. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Albert and Elizabeth (McCormick) Mousseau.

WOONSOCKET - Anne (Medynski) Melnyk, 87, of Woonsocket, passed away peacefully on Monday at the Friendly Home. She was the loving wife of the late Walter Melnyk. Born, Sept. 12, 1926 in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Elias "Alex" & Mary (Romanovich) Medynski.
Anne was employed as a stitcher for the Stamina Mills before retiring. She was a communicant, and a very active member of the Ladies Sodality of St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Woonsocket.

Firefighters OK contract

WOONSOCKET – Members of the International Association of Firefighters Local 732 voted Friday to ratify a collective bargaining agreement with the city.
After multiple rounds of negotiations with the IAFF that date back to the winter, members of the Budget Commission voted 4-1 last Wednesday in favor of the latest version of a proposed five-year deal on wages and benefits with the union.

MAPLEVILLE - Pamela G. Cabana 55, of Oak Terrace, Mapleville, died Saturday at Rhode Island Hospital. She was born in Woonsocket, a daughter of the late Robert Charland and Gloria (Dupre) Canale. Pam danced for the RI State Ballet for several years. She was a Physical Education teacher in several area schools and also taught gymnastics, dance and aerobics for many years. She had a great love of animals.

Combat veterans ride to raise money, awareness for their peers

WOONSOCKET – With a good turnout of about 80 motorcyclists helping out, all Cercle Laurier President Roland Cagnon needed make Sunday’s Wounded Warrior benefit bike run perfect was a bit of cooperation from the weather.

And the riders were able to get ready for the run with the roads still dry and the bad weather holding off right up until they rolled out onto East School Street at 11 a.m.

Women Rock fundraiser to aid breast cancer research

WOONSOCKET – It was when a friend’s mother lost a fight with breast cancer that Sheri Delisle decided she wanted to do something to help find a cure and put on her first fundraiser with the help of friends three years ago.

The resulting Women Rock fundraiser at Cityside at Market Square brought in only about $400 the first year but set the stage for a growing effort to help the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation.

PAWTUCKET – For reasons no doubt discussed ad nauseam in other forums, “Rocket” Roger Clemens will not be featured during this weekend’s Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

Brandon Workman, Clemens fan, fellow Red Sox pitcher and fellow University of Texas Longhorn, hopes that changes someday.

WOONSOCKET - Joseph M. Power, 65, of W. Park Place, died Sunday, July 20 at the Trinity Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of Suzanne Eisnor. He was born in Charlestown, MA, a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Bridges) Power. Mr. Power was a plumber for Newton Wellsley Hospital and St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Boston for many years.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two children; Michael Power, and Jennifer Power, two step-children; James McKenna and Heather McKenna, a brother; Dan Power, and five step-grandchildren.

In the state title clash for the 9/10 division at Ayotte Field in Woonsocket on Thursday, Lincoln took a 7-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning, and then held off a determined comeback attempt by Johnston to win it, 7-5.
