Raymond J. Durand

WOONSOCKET - Raymond J. Durand, 86, of Read Ave. died Wednesday December 24, 2014 at home. He is the beloved husband of Doris A. (Beaudoin) Durand.
Born in Woonsocket, son of the late Domina and Ida (Provost) Durand.
Mr. Durand worked for D&T Incorporated in production for 45 years, prior to retiring.
He was a United States Army Veteran serving in WWII.
He was a member the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 06342, St. Joseph Seniors, and St. Agatha's Seniors.
Raymond enjoyed traveling .

George H. Stevens, Jr.

BRISTOL - George H. Stevens, Jr., 89, died Wednesday evening at the Rhode Island Veterans Home in Bristol. He was the former husband of Yvette L. (Bell) Stevens.
Born in Woonsocket he was a son of the late George H. Stevens Sr. and Catherine M. (Jackman) Stevens. He was a resident of Woonsocket for most of his life also having lived in North Smithfield for several years. He was a graduate of Woonsocket High School and Providence College.
During WWII Mr. Stevens served in the U. S Navy.

WOONSOCKET - Andrew Bicki, 90, of Woonsocket passed away on December 25, 2014 at his residence. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late John and Olympia (Giambazi) Bicki.
Andrew was a 1942 graduate of Woonsocket High School, a life long Woonsocket resident and worked in the textile industry there. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was an avid Red Sox fan and loved horse racing and ballroom dancing.

UXBRIDGE - John J. "Yash" Gniadek, 81, of Uxbridge passed away Thursday Dec. 25, 2014 with his loving family by his side. He was the husband of the late Lucille R. (LeClaire) Gniadek who died in December 2011.

BELLINGHAM - Pauline C. (Menoche) Gagne, 78, of Bellingham, MA passed away on Thursday, December 25, 2014 at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Needham, MA. She was the beloved wife of the late Raymond R. Gagne. Born in Central Falls, RI on March 29, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Adrien and Cecile (LeClerc) Menoche.

Woonsocket, NS ready to take permit process online

PROVIDENCE — Woonsocket, North Smithfield and Pawtucket are among 10 communities selected to pilot a new statewide e-permitting initiative designed to streamline state and local regulatory approvals with a customer-friendly, online permitting portal accessible through municipal web sites.

The initiative, announced Wednesday by Gov. Lincoln D. Chafee, also includes Cranston, Newport, North Kingstown, North Providence, Warwick, West Warwick and Westerly.

Mount St. Charles Boys' Hockey | Mounties capture Holiday Face-Off Tournament

WOONSOCKET – For those who concerned about Mount St. Charles’ early-season struggles heading into their Holiday Face-Off Tournament, wonder no more.

The Mounties capped off three days of sterling play with a tourney-clinching 4-0 win over Connecticut’s Fairfield Prep at Adelard Arena on Sunday night. MSC jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one period and never looked back on its way to capturing the Face-Off for the first time since 2011.

Bryant students apply management principles to animal shelter

NORTH SMITHFIELD — Six Bryant University students spent a portion of their fall 2014 semester putting into practice what they’ve learned in their business class to help the Friends of the North Smithfield Animal Shelter.

It was another in a series of service-learning projects undertaken by Bryant students enrolled in "Management Principles and Practice" (Management 200), a course in which students break into teams to work with area nonprofits.

Two men hospitalized in stabbing on street

WOONSOCKET – Two men were hospitalized with stab wounds, and a third was detained for questioning after an altercation on Memorial Drive Friday afternoon, police said.

Detective Sgt. Matt Ryan said one of the victims, a man in his 40s, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with a single stab wound to the chest. Ryan said the wound was serious, but not life-threatening.

Another man in his 20s was transported to Landmark Medical Center with less serious injuries, according to Ryan.

Mount St. Charles Boys' Hockey | Mounties breeze to easy win in Face-Off tourney opener

WOONSOCKET  –  Mount St. Charles got off to a great start in its own Holiday Face-Off Tournament on Friday night, icing Bishop Guertin of Nashua, N.H., 8-3, at Adelard Arena.

Patrick Holmes, Justin D’Abrosca and Tyler Rudek all closed with two tallies, while Dan Allen and Jake Glod each chipped in a goal and two assists and Keith Phaneuf three feeds for the Mounties.
