Law adds reinforcements to stalk child porn trade

December 20, 2014

SCITUATE – Clad in a gray suit, a detective sits in a spartan work cubicle, his face illuminated by an eerie glow as he stares at the wide screen of a desktop computer, a serious expression on his face.
If a pin dropped, you could probably hear it in this austere corner of state police headquarters on a lonely stretch of Route 6.
This is where the state police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force mines its quarry, a special breed of sex offenders who swap images of child pornography on the Internet like some people trade baseball cards.

Sadly, business is unusually brisk.

Trees move to Pepin Lumber

December 19, 2014

WOONSOCKET – Many years have passed since Pepin Lumber last sold Christmas trees during the holidays. But on Thursday morning they dragged out the old sign that company founder Camille Pepin built in 1953 and, along with a dozen balsam firs, parked it in front of the busy East Woonsocket lumber supply store.
No, it’s not your usual seasonal capitalism. In fact, it’s not capitalism at all, but a charitable rescue mission.

High school boys hockey | Mounties face early-season test vs. Hendricken

December 19, 2014

WOONSOCKET – Mount St. Charles coach Dave Belisle doesn’t want to sound the alarm, but also won’t deny the importance of Friday’s matchup with longtime rival Bishop Hendricken at Warwick’s Thayer Arena.

“They’re all big games, but December games are just as important,” said Belisle.

Keeping pace in head-to-head matchups will be essential for the Mounties to make noise in the Championship Division race. To date, Mount and Hendricken have each lost to currently unbeaten La Salle Academy.
