Mary Montanari

MANVILLE- Mary Montanari passed away peacefully with family at her side on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at the Holiday Retirement Home in Manville, R.I.
She was born in Woonsocket, R.I. to the late Joseph and Malvina Trant. Mary was the wife of the late Mauro Montanari.
She was employed for many years as a Quality Control Inspector at Tupperware Corporation in North Smithfield, R.I. until her retirement.

NORTH SMITHFIELD- Ann Fener Nyhan, 93, of 41 Summit Ave, North Smithfield died March 11, 2014 in Waterview Villa, East Providence.
She was born in Bridgeport, CT, the fifth of six children of the late Louis and Lillian Ansell and raised in New York City.
She is survived by Alan Fener of Columbia MD, Janice Saraidarian of Woonsocket, Diane Fener of Brooklyn NY and Ethan Fener of Needham, MA. She is also survived by her former husband, Albert Fener, eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.

JAMESTOWN, RI- STUBBS, ELAINE (DAVIS), 85, of Jamestown, RI, passed away on Monday, March 10, 2014. She was the beloved wife of the late Raymond E. Stubbs.
Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Gertrude (Beauregard) Davis.
Elaine was a graduate of Our Lady of the Elms College, class of 1950. Elaine was a medical technologist and operated the first medical lab in the town of Burrillville for many years until going on the road as a phlebotomist, retiring at the age of 81. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed playing card games with her family.

Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of Lucille I. (Michaud) Gervais of Woonsocket and the late J. Laurent Gervais.

Legislators hear testimony on bills about abortion rights

PROVIDENCE – Scores of advocates on both sides of the volatile abortion issue testified into the night Tuesday on a dozen different bills that sought to either restrict or liberalize the state’s abortion laws.

Three of the bills were sponsored by local lawmakers.

A measure sponsored by state Rep. Karen MacBeth (D-Dist. 52, Cumberland) would require a physician who is to perform an abortion to also perform an obstetric ultrasound on the pregnant woman and offer to show her the ultrasound images and a medical description of those images.

Historic block faces condemnation

WOONSOCKET – City planners have long viewed the historic commercial block as a key to rejuvenating Main Street, but the building could be condemned in 30 days if the owners fail to replace the roof.

Planning Director Joel Mathews said the ultimatum would be spelled out in a letter to be mailed today to Stamatos Property Management of Jamaica Plain, Mass.

Mathews said the state fire marshal has also given SPM 60 days to install a hard-wired fire alarm system, but the order is essentially moot unless the leaking, unstable roof is repaired first.

Mount St. Charles, Bishop Hendricken meet again with state crown on the line

WOONSOCKET  –  The storied hockey rivalry between Division I powerhouses Mount St. Charles and Hendricken will continue this weekend at Brown University in the form of the R.I. Championship Division Tournament final.
 
But if this best-of-three set, slated to begin at 7 p.m., Friday at Meehan Auditorium, follows the same pattern as the regular-season tilts between the two, the Mounties could be in for a short appearance.

WOONSOCKET- Ruth A. Beauchamp, 79, of Woonsocket, formerly of Church St. Manville, died Monday morning at Oakland Grove Health Care Center. She was the loving wife of Rene W. "Butch" Beauchamp. They were married on August 31, 1957.
Born in Manville she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Corinne (Lachapelle) Latour. She was a resident of Manville for most of her life prior to moving to Woonsocket several years ago.
Mrs. Beauchamp was employed at the Wrentham State School for several years.

MANVILLE- Eugene A. Salois, 98 formerly of Church St. died Sunday March 9, 2014, in the Holiday Retirement Home. He was the husband of the late Catherine (Bobis) Salois and Lucille (Boucher) Salois.
Born in Manville, son of the late Alexander and Delia (Robidoux ) Salois. Gene was a lifelong resident of Manville.
