NORTH SMITHFIELD â€“ The Aldi discount supermarket chain will open its fifth Rhode Island store in Dowling Village, town officials say.
Although Walmart negotiated lease covenants with the developer of Dowling Village designed to reduce the likelihood of competition for discount food, the new Aldi will be located next door to Walmart and apparently go toe-to-toe with the retail giant on groceries, said Town Planner Robert Ericson.
MANVILLE- Anastasia Gnot, 97, of Willis Drive, Cumberland, formerly of Chestnut St., Manville died Monday at Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island in Providence. She was the wife of the late Stephen Gnot.
Born in Woonsocket, she was a daughter of the late Makal and Anna (Shewchuck) Sowiecki. She resided in Manville for most of her life and lived in Cumberland for the past 22 years.
Edgar R. Frigon
WOONSOCKET- Edgar R. "Hollywood" Frigon 91, of Main St. Woonsocket, died November 7, 2012 at Woonsocket Health and Rehabilitation Centre. He was the husband of the late Dorothy I. Frigon.
Born in Woonsocket he was a son of the late Donat and Marie (Beauregard) Frigon.
Edgar was a machinist for the Draper Corporation for thirty years before retiring in 1980. He was a WWII 82nd Airborne Army Veteran and fought in Sicily, Africa and the European Theatre and was the recipient of two Purple Hearts.
Sandra A. Duquette
NORTH SMITHFIELD- Sandra A. (Dougan) Duquette, 67, of Woodlawn Rd., died November 13, 2012 in Oakland Grove Health Care Center in Woonsocket. She was the wife of Paul R. Duquette whom she was married for 47 years.
Born in Preswick, Scotland, she was the daughter of the late James and Agnes (Alexander) Dougan. Sandra moved to the U.S. in 1965.
She worked as a CNA for Bayberry Commons, Pascoag, retiring in 2010. She also worked at the the ARC of Rhode Island for many years. Sandra was an avid reader.
Roger C. Jordan
MANVILLE- Roger "Fatty" C. Jordan, 45, of Chestnut St., died November 9, 2012 in Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of Marie (Forcier) Jordan of Woonsocket and the late Jean Prescott and the late Donald Jordan.
George L. Bedard
WOONSOCKET- George L. Bedard, 85, of West Park Place, died November 10, 2012 in Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket. He was the husband of the late Muriel (Tessier) Bedard.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Leo and Edna (Champagne) Bedard of Carnation Avenue.
Amanda P. Dean
PROVIDENCE- Amanda P. Dean 27, resident of North Smithfield passed away November 10, 2012 at the Home & Hospice Care of RI in Providence.
She was born in Woonsocket, a beloved daughter of Charles & Jo-Ann (Gouin) Dean of North Smithfield.
Amanda attended the Northern RI Collaborative and the former Arc of RI.
Besides her parents she is survived by her sisters, Elizabeth Gravato of New Bedford, and Shannon Dean of Warwick, a nephew, Jacob Gravato and several aunts, uncles and cousins, also she is she survived by a special friend and caretaker Deb "Deb-Deb" McMahon.
Dennis J. Walsh
WOONSOCKET- Dennis J. Walsh, 65, of Woonsocket, died on November 7, 2012 at his home in Woonsocket. He was the husband of Eleanor G. (Sheehan) Walsh whom he married June 12, 1976.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late James and Catherine (Breslin) Walsh.
NORTH SMITHFIELD- F. Suzanne Bourgery, 93, of Rhodes Ave. formerly of Warren Ave. Cumberland, R.I., died Saturday, November 10, 2012, in St. Antoine residence, with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late Joseph A. Bourgery.
Born in Woonsocket, daughter of the late Lucien S. and Antonia (Valcourt) Chartier.
Mrs. Bourgery worked as a Seamstress for Woonsocket Dress for several years, prior to retiring.
Her hobbies, were knitting, cake decorating, sewing, crafts, she was a very talented seamstress, in all aspects of the word.
WOONSOCKET- Rita Gazaille, 83, of Tucson, AZ, formerly of North Smithfield, died Friday morning at Mountain View Care Center in Tucson. She was the wife of the late Roland E. Gazaille, Sr.
Born in Woonsocket, she was a daughter of the late Lionel O. and Alice (Rousseau) Bruyere. She was raised in Woonsocket and resided in North Smithfield for over 40 years. She lived in Arizona for the past several years.
Mrs. Gazaille was employed by Uniroyal for over 19 years and later worked at Polytop for many years before retiring.
