Arts and crafts festival Saturday at the Monastery

CUMBERLAND — The town's Monastery property will be on display with all its history when the sixth Annual Cumberland Arts and Crafts Festival is held there this weekend. More than 50 artists and crafters will be setting up booths near the Cumberland Senior Center building at the Monastery on Saturday for what organizers are hoping will be a nice day outdoors for the festival's visitors.
Lee Drury, Senior Center Director, said the festival is something the event's sponsors have been trying to grow each year as a rival to other popular arts and crafts events later in the season.

WOONSOCKET- Muriel C. Cousineau, 81, wife of Robert N. Cousineau, resident of Woonsocket, passed away on Monday, June 4, 2012 at the Oakland Grove Health Care Center in Woonsocket.
Born in Woonsocket, she was a daughter of the late Oswald and Alice (Dupuis) Nichols.

WOONSOCKET- Joseph O. Morin Jr., 85, passed away peacefully on Monday at the Oakland Grove Health Care Ctr., with his family by his side. He was the loving husband to Theresa (Bacon) Morin.
Born July 22, 1926 in Blackstone, MA. he was the son of the late Joseph & Aurore (Caya) Morin.
Joseph was employed for the Woonsocket Housing Authority retiring in 1992, before that, he was a self employed carpenter. He proudly served in the U.S. NAVY during WWII.

BLACKSTONE- Eileen C. (Deconing) Rivard, 77, of Blackstone, MA passed away peacefully on Friday, June 1, 2012 at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph A. Rivard.
Born in Woonsocket, RI on November 3, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Alberta (Chevrette) Deconing.

Budget panel wants tax OK

WOONSOCKET — If there’s a breath of life left in a House bill that would allow the city to levy a 13 percent supplemental tax bill, the Budget Commission intends to find out.
During its second meeting in Harris Hall Tuesday, the five-member, state-appointed panel now handling the city’s finances unanimously passed a resolution urging the House to pass the legislation immediately.

Hit-and-run driver gets 10 years

WOONSOCKET — The city woman who abandoned another in a snowbank after a 2011 hit-and-run somehow persuaded the victim to write a letter to the court requesting leniency.
She didn’t get it.
Rejecting the recommendations of prosecutors, Superior Court Judge Netti Vogel Tuesday sentenced Besty J. Feliciano, 33, to 10 years in prison, with one to serve and two years home confinement. The balance of the sentenced was suspended, with probation.

CUMBERLAND- Denise J. Beauchemin, 78 of Thomas Leighton Blvd., passed away Monday at the Oakland Grove Nursing Home, Woonsocket.
Born in Woonsocket she was the daughter of the late Willie H. and Elzire (Lamothe) Beauchemin
She resided in Cumberland for 47 years, previously residing in Woonsocket.
Ms. Beauchemin was employed as Sales Clerk for the Kornstein Department Store, Woonsocket, previously employed by Bell Telephone and Shephard Department Store.
She was a communicant of the St. John Vianney Church, Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland.

ASHEVILLE, NC- William E. Javarey Jr., 76, died on May 3 at his home in Asheville, NC. He was the son of the late William and Ruth (Tedford) Javarey of Woonsocket.
He leaves his wife Jeneva and two sons, Robert and David as well as grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Born May 8, 1935 in Cumberland, RI, Mr. Javarey served in the U.S. Air Force from 1956-60 and had a long career as a mechanical engineer, retiring in 2005.
