Spectators view storm's destruction

All day long, a steady stream of curious spectators traversed the historic stretch of Ocean Road in Narragansett Pier Tuesday, from Monahan's Dock to the south, up to the famous Coast Guard House and historic Towers, to the north. Along the way, one couldn't help to notice an odd sight in between, a huge gap in the seawall, taken out by powerful waves that crashed here all day long Monday. Some onlookers had never seen such a sight in their young lives, and paused to ponder the might of such an angry storm.

Hurricane Sandy pummels Rhode Island coast

Workers survey the damage to the Coast Guard House, a familiar landmark on Ocean Road in Narragansett Pier Tuesday. Wind and waves from Hurricane Sandy swept through the historic structure Monday afternoon at the height of the superstorm, gutting the popular restaurant. Hundreds turned out to view the damage all day Tuesday, many with tears in their eyes, some reminiscing about their own weddings held here years ago.

HARRISVILLE- Gerard R. "Gerry" Cournoyer, 66, of 100 Whipple Ave. died Mon. Oct. 29 at Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island, surrounded by his loving family after an illness.
He was predeceased by his wife of 38 years Constance M. (Charpentier) Cournoyer who passed away in 2005.

NORTH SMITHFIELD- Polak, Frank, 84, of North Smithfield, passed away Tuesday October 30th. He was the husband of 51 years to Elizabeth (Julien) Polak.
Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Paul and Tekla Polak.
Frank was the owner of Franks Oil Service in North Smithfield for over 30 years and also worked for the North Smithfield Highway Department.

Evelyn Kling Bosse

CUMBERLAND- Evelyn Kling Bosse, 88, of Putnam Pike, Smithfield, formerly of Norton Drive, passed away Monday at the Village at Waterman Lake, Smithfield. She was the beloved wife of Walter Bosse for the last 67 years.
Born in Summit Hill, PA, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Lorraine Wetzel Kling.
She was a LPN for several years, but primarily was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Arnold Mills United Methodist Church, and was very active in their congregation as well as a member of the choir.

Harold J. Lefebvre

Harold J. Lefebvre

WOONSOCKET- Harold J. Lefebvre, 85, of Woonsocket, died Saturday at home. He was the loving husband of Lucille J. (Berard) Lefebvre. They were married on July 4, 1952.
Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Joseph and Grace (Mandeville) Lefebvre. He was a lifelong resident of the city.
Mr. Lefebvre was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WWII.
Mr. Lefebvre was employed at the French Worsted mill for over 20 years and then worked for Comm Tec for over 25 year before retiring.

WOONSOCKET- Samuel Chattman, 57, of Bernon St. died Saturday October 27, 2012 in Marion Hospital.
Born in Woonsocket, son of the late Alfonso Chattman, and Bessie (Allen) Chattman of Woonsocket.
He was a United States Navy veteran.
Samuel worked for the Friends Foundry prior to becoming disabled.

WOONSOCKET- Alan R. Kane, Sr., 61, of Woonsocket, RI passed away on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at the Kindred Transitional Care & Rehabilitation Oak Hill in Pawtucket, RI. He was the beloved husband of the late Claire T. (Blais) Kane.
Born in Woonsocket on November 13, 1950, he was the son of the late Woodrow and Doris (Beaubien) Kane.

WOONSOCKET- Arrigo "Rico" Gobbi, 91, formerly of Coolidge Ave. died Sunday October 29, 2012 in the Friendly Home. He was the husband of the late Emily (Verni) Gobbi.
Born in Remini, Italy, son of the late Joseph and Gina (SantaCattherina) Gobbi.
Mr. Gobbi worked as a weaver for JoAnn Plush in Pawtucket, for several years and for Bella Construction in asphalt prior to retiring.
He was Past President of the Italian Workingmen's Club.

WOONSOCKET- Pauline V. Riendeau 82, of Birch St. died Monday at home. She was the beloved wife of her husband of fifty three years, Camile Riendeau.
Born in Woonsocket she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Irene (Marchand) Trudeau. Pauline was an electronics assembler for E M C Co. for eleven years before retiring in 1988.
