Panel to meet with labor leaders today

WOONSOCKET — In what’s being billed as an informational session, the Budget Commission will meet privately with leaders of city labor unions this afternoon to discuss shifting the workforce onto a single health plan.
Dave Eaton, fiscal advisor to the budget commission, said no specific proposals will be made, but a sales representative of Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Rhode Island will be on hand to answer questions.

Juliette P. Larder

WOONSOCKET - Juliette P. (Lacouture) Larder, 71, of Woonsocket, formerly of Wrentham, died July 17, 2012 in the St. Antoine Residence, North Smithfield. She leaves her husband of 39 years, William E. Larder. Born in Woonsocket, RI, she was the daughter of the late Lucien and Marie Leonie (Ledoux) Lacouture.
Juliette was a cashier for Star Market. She taught English as a second language through Rhode Island Regional Adult Learning, Woonsocket. Juliette was past president of the Franco-American War Veterans Post 15 Ladies' Auxiliary.

WOONSOCKET - Lorenzo Ajavon, 17, of Robinson St. died unexpectedly on July 10, 2012.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, beloved son of Clarence L. and Patince (Myers) Martin, of Woonsocket.
Lorenzo would have entered his senior year at Woonsocket High School. He enjoyed lifting weights and enjoyed being in the company of his family and friends. He was a very happy-go-lucky teenager, and was loved by all.

Rev. Anthony Peloquin, OFM

SAN DIEGO, CA - Rev. Anthony Peloquin, OFM, 82, of San Diego, California, died Thursday July 12, 2012 at his home in San Diego. He was a Franciscan priest of the Washington D.C. Province.
Born Roland Peloquin, he was raised in Woonsocket and was a son of the late Clovis and Juliette (Paul-hus) Peloquin.
He attend Mount St. Charles Academy and entered the novitiate in Cincinnati, Ohio at St. Anthony Shrine on August 15, 1950. He made his Simple Vows on August 15, 1951, Final Solemn Vows on August 15, 1953, and was ordained a priest on May 25, 1958.

Ella R. Berard

CUMBERLAND - Ella R. (Coutu) Berard, 87, of Cumberland passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at The Holiday with family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Emile O. Berard.
Born in Woonsocket on July 29, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Louis J. and Rhea Alphonsine (Peloquin) Coutu.
She was the loving mother of Robert E. Berard and his companion, Paulette J. Rattigan of No. Providence, and Marcel L. Berard and his wife, Maureen A. (Motte) of Cumberland.

Cooling centers open today and tomorrow

WOONSOCKET – Fire Chief Gary Lataille announced that Woonsocket Emergency Management has opened cooling centers at Woonsocket Harris Library, 303 Clinton Street, and the Woonsocket Senior Center, 84 Social St. The library will be open today and tomorrow, Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the senior center, 1-5 p.m., same days.
These facilities only offer shelter from the heat and humidity; they do not offer any other amenities such as food or entertainment.

TV show to delve into double murder

WOONSOCKET — A 1991 city double murder will be recalled in an upcoming Discovery Channel networks crime program after a production crew wrapped up work on the project at The Call on Monday.
Call reporter Russ Olivo was interviewed by the Sirens Media crew for an upcoming segment of “Nightmare Next Door,” an investigative true crime documentary program on the Investigation Discovery Channel.

Burrillville wins District IV title, edges Lincoln, 1-0

BURRILLVILLE – Burrillville found the perfect way to cap Monday night’s dedication ceremonies of the Richard “Dick” Peck Fields at Sherman Park – by winning the District IV Major Division championship.
Matt Schiffman’s home run to left field with one out in the top of the fifth inning and the excellent two-hit pitching of starter Josh DiChiaro and reliever Jason Cabral were the keys to a well-played 1-0 triumph over Lincoln and the team’s first district title since 2002 before a standing-room-only gathering.

Germaine A. Goulet

WOONSOCKET - Germaine A. Goulet, 85, a resident of the St. Antoine Residence, passed away on Saturday at the Residence, she was the loving wife of the late Oliver D. Goulet.
Born April 7, 1927 in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late George & Simone (Christory) Miclette.
Germaine retired as a Tour Guide for Collette Tours, she previously was employed for the Clairol Hairdressing Co. & the former Uniroyal Co.
She is survived by a son Richard A. Goulet of Ft. Myers, FL, a daughter Michelle D. Morris of Blackstone, MA, a brother Arman Miclette of Auburn, N.H. Also 3 grandsons.

GLOCESTER - McGovern, Jane C., (Baacke), 80, died Sunday, July 15, 2012. She was the wife of the late Robert T. McGovern.
Born in Providence, the daughter of the late Raymond and Jane (O'Connell) Baacke, she had resided in Chepachet for 41 years.
Mrs. McGovern had been employed with the Observer.
She is survived by two sons, Raymond T. McGovern and Karen of Woonsocket and Robert M. McGovern and Kathy of Wyoming, RI; grandmother of Kristina, Michael, Heather, Lauren, and Thomas McGovern; great grandmother of Brooke.
