BRISTOL, Conn. â€“ The Cumberland Major Division (ages 11 and 12) All-Star softball team arrived at the end of the line on Thursday afternoon, the teamâ€™s magical run culminating in a 4-2 defeat to Robbinsville, N.J. in semifinal-round action of the Eastern Regionals at Breen Field.
The defeat closes Cumberlandâ€™s stay at the 10-team tournament, which featured teams from New England and the Mid-Atlantic, at 4-2. In its six games, Cumberland outscored its opponents by a 42-19 margin and outhit them, 49-24.
PAWTUCKET â€” Northern Bernon's summer campaign ended at Pineview's Tomlinson Field on Thursday night, but there were no tears shed and a minimum amount of frowns cast after it dropped a 10-5 decision to Johnston.
Instead, skipper Ron Masse and his assistants chose to accentuate the positives following the championship game of the R.I. Little League Junior Division (13-14) Tournament.
WOONSOCKET â€” Synagro Technologies Inc.â€™s plan for a $10 million heat-to-energy cogeneration facility took a giant leap forward yesterday after the Budget Commission approved a $6.5 million deal on taxes for the new construction.
The cash, to be parceled out over 20 years, isnâ€™t the only perk in the works for the struggling city. Thereâ€™s cheap electricity in the deal, too, and itâ€™s â€śgreen,â€ť to boot.

LINCOLN- Rita (Bourque) Gregoire, 92, of Lincoln, died July 24, 2012 in the Holiday Nursing Home, Manville. Her husband of 53 years, Armand J. Gregoire, died in 1993. Born in Woonsocket, Rita was the daughter of George and Delores (Desjarlais) Bourque.
Rita was a communicant at St. Ambrose Church, Albion.

WOONSOCKET â€” If the sale of Landmark Medical Center falls through, most Rhode Islanders would blame Blue Cross, a new poll suggests.
The poll, conducted by Marttila Strategies of Boston, was commissioned by the United Nurses and Allied Professionals, Landmark Medical Center, and Steward Health Care, the for-profit chain that wants to buy Landmark.
CUMBERLAND â€” Residents will get the opportunity on Aug. 7 to offer input on a proposed plan to consolidate the town's fire services as a single municipal public safety department that would not only include the town's four independent fire districts, but emergency medical service and police as well.

WOONSOCKET - Diana J. (Yarush) Bergeron, 54, of Hudson, Florida, passed away Saturday, July 14th at HPH Hospice in New Port Richey, Florida.
Born in Marlboro, MA, she was the daughter of the late John A. Yarush and sister of the late Mary Susan Parenteau. She was a lifelong resident of Woonsocket.

ST.FRANCIS, MAINE- Armand I. Scott Jr. (Butch) Passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family on July 17, 2012.
He is survived by his wife Carla (Dubey) Scott and six children, Ryan, Daniel, Stephen, Arianna, Sirena and Aislinne of Maine.
He is the son of Armand Sr. and Doris Scott. He is also Survived by a brother Raymond Scott and two sisters and their husbands, Sheila & Jim Brousseau and Michele & Darin Celani Also several nieces & nephews.
